Hey guys I have a question I am restoring a 78 LTD Wagon. The rear tail gate is gone, rusted pretty bad. I found one online but is from a woody. The question I have is can the woody siding be removed and re panted because my wagon is not a woody. I have not seen a woody up close so I am not sure.

    Thanks for the help:taz:

Oh for sure. I don't know if there would be any holes under the trim though, perhaps someone else might.

A lot harder to add woodgrain than it is to take it off. You'll have some scraping, sanding to do etc removing the Di-Noc (thats's the trade name of the vinyl applique 'woodgrain' that is stuck to the side). The moldings come off, but there may be holes for the attachment clips or welded-on posts instead of the clips. Those will have to be addressed. If you have no body work experience, you may want to have a body shop handle it. Alternative, if you want to learn some skills is to take a body repair course at your local community college. You can use the tailgate as your 'project'.

    leave the wood on it.

we have a guy on the impala ss forums(NH gonzo) who has wood on his tailgate only...it actually looks pretty cool. now if it were a side door, thats different.

Yup, what he said. I have seen several wagons over the years in person and pics where just the tail gate has wood, they all look good.
