Hello to all collectors out there ! I have been collecting cars for over 30 plus years and it never gets old. The last roadtrip out to montana, now well over a year ago was supposed to be a quick trip to seek out some parts for a packard sedan I own and some misc parts for a 48 ford p.u. Our trip started in the late summer early fall of 2008. Carl the guy I went with, is the sorta guy that if he wants to do something that you should just drop all your plans to either accomodate, or to help him. (ANYONE KNOW SOMEONE LIKE THIS HUH!) Anyhow back to the story, Carl asks if I want to go look at some cars, parts in some salage yards in Idaho, and in montana on thursday, and that we should only be gone 4or5 days tops. Its already tuesday around 2pm when he asks. I said sure so we left thursday. We saw over 30,000 cars in 5 days,I was eating sleeping and dreaming cars. I did'nt know it but I was ready to purchase and did, a 1959 Mercury colony park 9 pass. station wagon. Thats my story on my wagon. Its engine is being rebuit now, the parts to be replated have been sent outto be rechromed the upholstery is being redone now, and I just started bodywork Fri. I hope to be done by the end of June.
Quite the story. Welcome to the Forum. I used to live in Southern Alberta and spent a lot of time in Montana looking for just the right cars to bring home. Love Montana and Idaho for their cars and the fact that they usually don't crush them, they keep them for people like us to re-love. Look forward to seeing pics of your car.
Welcome carcrazyguy! Love your story! Yeah, I have a friend like that! Want to see pics of your Colony Park! It sounds like it is in great hands! David
You certainly were fortunate to have come from such a beautiful part of the country, I was raised in Texas. I will get some pictures posted later this week. Thanks for the reply, I WILL TALK TO YA LATER !
to the wagon train, CCC. By all means, show us pix AS you are building the car. We love resto pix! Before, after and during. Glad to have you as a member of our wagon family.
CCC, your Carl sounds like HandyAndy and me. We're both Fairmont fanatics and we've done the trip from Canada to the far southwest side of North Dakota to pick up a wagon. That's what happens when two carhounds live in the same city. Great story.
As in collector .... do you buy these cars to enjoy or are they for a turn and burn ? I also own classics however I buy them to drive and enjoy. I have had my Parklane for 8 years and just last year picked up a Dodge. I drive them everywhere everyday and dont plan on selling them to turn a profit. Just wondered.
