Plus winter blend gas in some areas will make your MPG's worse.

funny thing about our cars.... the Roadmaster wagon had 2 available rear ends during the LT1 years 2:56 and 2:93 (2:93 is tow pkg)

the 2:56 is noticeably slower off the line than a 2:93. but the 2:56 gets better hwy mpg on FLAT ground. once you add hills into the mix, you get low low 20's out of the 2:56 car while the 2:93 gets 25mpg.

now, that said. when i took TiKi (2:56)to south florida...once i got to jacksonville.. i started getting 25+, my best tank ever was 27.9 mpg.

The best I got out of my 92 TBI L05 with the 2.97 rear was 23.2mpg and that was from Western NY state down to New Jersey through the mountains. Now that I have the 93's exhaust issue opened up due to a plugged cat(which I gutted) it runs better then the 92. But I have not taken it all that far to see what kind of mileage its getting. It was getting a sad 7mpg on the tank before I uncorked the cat. Once spring comes, I plan to get a video for you guys on how much better it runs. I kid you not, from a dead stop punch it will cook the tires off the rear in full posi and chirp them into second. I will be uncorking the 92's cat next week, they do not do a sniffer test here in my area of NY state, they just check to see if there is a cat under it, which there is on both of them, though they will be hollow, LMAO!

Lucky, my best was 12 mpg on a straight flat ground highway run at ~55 mph. I usually average 8-10 on the highway, and ~4 in town.

So, oh well. As long as the gas prices are at $1.25 a gallon I can actually afford to drive it. To bad that they're about 3x that in the summers :(

I've seen you post about burning your tires here before, Blackie. My LT1 won't. I have 2.93's and the wagon won't turn a tire from a stop. I will tell you that it gets to 80 mph in a heart beat....but....nope...no tire burn. I can't figure how you are layin' it down with your TBI 305 & 350 and I'm not with my LT1/2.93's?

I will get you a video of both cars Mike, once I get someone to do the filming and a dry road, just so nobody can say its from the roads being wet.

The 93 will really turn them now that the cat has been gutted, i just uncorked the cat in the 92 lastnight and now she has a great exhaust note being thats it has nothing under it but a Thrush Welded muffler. She gained a little bit of power, but not as much as I was hoping for.

As for the gearing, I am not sure if 2.93 is what my wagons have for gearing, I read on the ImpSS forum lastnight that those gear ratios were used in the 94-96 years and the 91-93 ran lower gears? But I have not seen anyone list what the older years had for gearing.

No need for video, Blackie. I BELIEVE you...just wondering why my LT1 won't do it. You may have hit on the answer about the possible lower gear ratio. OTOH, they would have to be geared pretty low, I would think. My wagon is a little slow right off the line but picks up the low end of the mid range quick and shoots to 80 in no time. A cam/converter would solve the bottom of the low range but I was just curious how some of the guys with the same rigs are turning tires?

Not really sure Mike. I have seen many vids of LT1 wagons not being able to turn the tires without alot of power breaking. If I really want the 92 to turn them, I just need a little of double footed action to get them to really sing, otherwise I only get about 10 feet of posi from just a dead stop stab. The white 91 will gust cook them off from a dead stop, not smoke them, but move and spin them an easy 30 feet then bark them into second for a couple feet. I think I am gonna hold onto the 93 for the time being, never know what the situation you and I talked about via PM, is gonna turn into. The last few days, I have been feeling not so positive about it, still have hope, but thats even waining.

I will tell ya, that white 93 will pull hard and fast all the way upto 111mph where the speed limiter cuts it off. I have a feeling, even it being bone stock, it would run real close with a LT1 and would love the chance to try it out someday.

Frankly, I don't see why that 93 wouldn't stay with a stock LT. Still a SBC.
And...hang in there and don't jump to any conclusions Listen and be patient.
