I am sure this has been covered, but I am new to the board. I also understand that this would vary from wagon to wagon, but assuming you have the parts and the welding/restoration skill, how hard is it to convert a late fifties/early sixties 6 passenger wagon into a 9 passenger wagon? I am looking for a wagon and want a 9 passenger, but am trying to decide whether to accept a 6 passenger and convert it later, or not
I say get a 6 pass... ..it would seem that everyone is trying to do the same thing... not sure why??? I have three/9 pass....and ive never had 9 in a car yet !! my 2 bits...i may owe ya change
Rev, I'm with you on this one. For me, finding 9 passengers would be harder than finding a 9-passenger wagon. David
Maybe Birth control is becoming Passe? Or the Dog shelters are full? Tim, you'd be hard-pressed for a late 50's Ford 9 passenger. Maybe a big Merc or an Edsel.
If anyone is looking for a complete 3rd seat setup for a 64-67 A body Gm wagon I have one. Shipping would be outrageous, so it would be a pickup item. I am in Central Calif. Mike
You'd have to change out the cargo area floorpan wouldn't you? So, wouldn't you need a 9 passenger donor car with the right floorpan? I'd haveta hold out for the 9 pass version...but if you've got the skill...cool!
Just need the floor brackets and the additional stuff that comes with the 3rd and second seat. I think most of it is bolt in. I have the complete car if anyone is interested. Mike
Thanks for the help with this. I will try to hold out of a 9 passenger, but am comfortable knowing I could convert a 6 passenger. I start every trip with 6 people as I have kids at home and aging parents. Also wanted something I could drag the whole office to lunch in.
Ford made their wagons so that the dealer could install them. A lot of people had second thoughts, after buying their wagons without the 3rd seat, so after the mid-60's, Ford standardized the floorpans and just plugged the mounting holes with rubber plugs.
