It holds 7 people has lots of windows!

And some would look down at them like a station wagon.

What about a 2wd Grand Cherokee.

They are called wagons as they are not 4x4.

Think of the minivan as the equivalent of a cuban cigarboat.

The way I see it a "van" has a full frame drop a body on it rear wheel drive so for it to be a "mini van" it must have a smaller frame drop a body on it and still be rear wheel drive....My wife drives a "mini van" ( GMC Saffari/ Chev Astro, same crap), if you could see it parked beside my full size cargo van you would see clearly it is a "mini van". IMO a front wheel drive unibody what ever IS NOT a "Mini Van" and no where close to being a station wagon, just a wana be;)

Certainly 2 or 4wd can't make the difference. My Subaru has 4wd (or AWD if you like) but is a real station. I was about to say, is a station not a version that has also a sedan/hatchback/coupe counterpart, but I guess I will get into trouble then. Just thinking of an AMC Eagle, no sedan version there...

    Wikipedia: "
A station wagon is a passenger car body style similar in terms of passengers to the sedan\saloon style but incorporating a full-size back cargo compartment (that can be further extended for a third passenger row in some cases) accessible via a fifth door instead of the standard sedan trunk slot. Station wagons are not to be confused with hatchbacks, whose difference lies in the size of the said compartment, with hatchbacks fitting practically as much storage as sedans, but often borrowing the fifth door of a station wagon instead of a trunk."

I don't think a minivan fits this description.

The good old station wagon, to me, is the car of a particular line turned into a wagon. Not a completely different format. Most of the wagons were spring offs from the sedan of that brand.

Actually Senri, there was a sedan version of the Eagle, in 2 or 4-door. They didn't sell very well, though.......

    It was called Concorde.

Mini-vans are not station wagons. Else they'd be called station wagons. Just like station wagons mini-vans have gone out of style in favor of SUVs which are nothing more than truck based station wagons. Those are going out of style in favor of "crossovers".

We will eventually come full circle and station wagons will make sense again for the masses.

Steve, the picture of the sedan is an Eagle (notice emblem on fender). The Concord was actually the 2wd version, basically a re-named AMC Hornet, with a 3 door hatchback model added.

The early years of Eagles offered sedans, wagons, hatch back( sx4) ,
the Concorde was a different platform . Confusing: Eagle line got attached to many different models when Chry bought in 8-07;)
The first Concords ( no "e") were all 2 wd. Eagles (same platform or unibody as Concord) all had 4wd and in 80 all were AWD .(y)

I'm putting the 2wd Grand c. or durango on my short list.

I like something different and just how many days a year do you need 4x4?

I would never beat any car off road so why 4x4.

Just give me a limited slip diff. and 4 snows!
