Very neat car... especially for the money! I kinda regret selling my 89 Safari, but it had engine issues I was not able to deal with... kinda going through the same thing with my 72 Estate wagon.

About ready to give it up, as I have never had good luck with cars. Seeing this wagon makes me wonder if I should try to trade it for a nice 85-9? Buick Estate Wagon or a Olds Custom Cruiser.

Not sure about me, but best of luck with yours!

It is but it does feel like it has some power and I didn't even get into it. Right now the CCC system is in great condition and working great. Maybe when that changes things will change as to what I do with the engine.

All cars have problems. Just gotta either work thru them one by one or drop it and cut your losses. But to me that only happens when I think it will take much more money than it's worth. If you can end up with something that runs and drives well and makes you happy it's all worth it.

Hey...72King....your 89 Safari is the same box wagon as the Buick or Olds except for nose and interior.

Yep, all except my 1973 Pontiac... nothing ever happens to it. Knock on wood, but its strange. In 8 years all its needed was an alternator when I got it wet from washing the engine. Thats it. Zilch. Even from 1973-2002 when grandma had it, never any problems other than replacing brakes and I did replace the valve cover gaskets. I know somethings gonna happen eventually. ;) Oh, the speedometer occasionally dont work. Even all of the lights, power windows, power locks, etc still work.
The most reliable car I have ever owned... (I wish my Chevy wagon had this cars engine!)

Yep, it was identical chassis and powertrain wise. :)

and my old 1985 Caprice Estate...

Well here are some more pics. Some of you wanted more pics of the dash and controls. There is also something I found that I don't know what it is. It is on the headliner back by the rear light. It faces forward and looks to have 2 little lights in it. What could this be?

One other cool thing is the passenger side of the front seat reclines. BTW I got a better look at the tow hitch and it not only fastens to the frame around the tank but also to the cross member behind the bumper. Not to the bumper like I orginally thought.

I assume those lights back there are viewable through the rear view mirror. They could be warning lights to show a rear bulb out in the blinkers or brake light or a warning light to alert when a door is ajar....maybe they had kids??? I've never seen that set up so I'm just guessing.

    Stickman,

Congrats on the car, nice buy. I'm suspect those two little lights are meant to blink with your turn signals, I had a Cadillac many years ago and I recall a similar setup.

Yep, positive thats what those lights are for, but I didnt even know it was optional on any of those wagons.

Right too about the Cadillac having them... not sure what year it started but my 1972 Cadillac DeVille had this feature. Really neat.

Those factory gauges are neat too! I have never seen that before on these wagons either. I have always liked the styling of the instrument clusters on these Olds cars, but I always would have liked the numbers on the speedometer to have been a little larger.

I am guessing none of those lights work then as I have never seen them light up. Oh well. I am really digging the reclining passenger seat. And pretty much everything else works so I'm cool with it.
