Does anyone know of a reliable source to purchase seat covers or perhaps upholstery kits to reupholster the seats in a wagon?

I have an ‘85 Ford LTD Crown Victoria and the seats are fading a bit but otherwise in good shape. The quotes I’m getting from the local upholstery shops near me are more than the value of the car for just one seat. I see plenty of reupholstery kits for trucks and sports cars as well as seat covers but nothing for my wagon so far. So far in fact the only option I’ve found is custom sheepskin at $1200 plus shipping which is far too much for me to spend on a seat cover. I remember 10 years ago or so they still had the universal fit split bench seat covers for older cars at the parts store and Walmart, I bought a bench seat cover for my then owned 1971 Ford F150. Someone must still manufacture the affordable covers for the older American cars out there.

Please don’t send me any PM’s on this they will be ignored thanks to scammers.

If they are vinyl, you can buy cans of spray dye to match.

Unfortunately my seats are fabric. The burgundy red color velour type material. I was thinking about trying the Fabricoat fabric paint but I think a seat cover would be better.

Wow you'd think as long running and popular as these cars were someone would make/sell them but a quick search turned up on 78-79 covers.

If they are just faded, but otherwise in good shape, I would look at SEM. I know they make products for carpets and fabrics.

I purchased the Duplicolor vinyl and fabric paint and gave it a try in an inconspicuous place first. It actually was a near identical match to the original color and I was able to touch up the faded spots to looking quite good. It didn’t seem to damage the fabric at all as after it dried it felt near the same softness as before. There was a little stiffness but using a soft brush on the fabric after about a half hour of drying took care of most of that. I’d still like to put seat covers over the seats just to protect them from further wear but I still can’t find a source for them anywhere.

I guess I'm not really sure what you are looking for. In your original post it sounded like you were looking for an OEM type replacement. Now it sounds like you just want something to protect what you have? At that level you're probably looking at the universal seat covers you can find in a parts store.

Kevin, the only universal seat covers I’m finding anywhere are for bucket seats which the 1985 Ford does not have. It has a 50/50 split bench with two center arm rests. While I’d definitely like to reupholster the seat that’s just not in my budget at the moment. I’d really like to get basic protection for what I have that could also dress it up a bit too. I have yet to locate anyone selling seat covers that would fit the car.

Old Fox, it doesn’t look like it. All I could see was bucket and full bench seats there.
