    Ok Guys,
This may be the last time you hear about the '80 Olds wagon. Highest bid on ebay $6350., but that wasn't meeting his reserve. Guess we'll find out more Mon. I went to $6750., but, that wasn't good enough to call off the auction. So, now I'll offer him $6375.00,(that's $25.00 more than the highest bid from ebay). but $400. less than the buy-it-now I was offering. You guys up north will hear him squeeeeeeal.
Maybe he'll holesail-it.... If you get my drift, with 2.99% to paypal, and whatever ebay charges, can we say up-side-down.
There is a little saying in the stock market, "little piggys are cute, but HOGS get slaughtered !!!" I can smell the fatback sizzleing right now!!!
    Thanks for all your support,
    Bruce

wow, Bruce...didn't think you'd go that high. I cannot BELIEVE he didn't sell it for $6750! Unless he has someone waiting in the wings closer to his reserve he's going to eat that car for awhile. We pretty much know what he paid for it. Sometimes you just have to cut your losses and move on. It's a nice wagon but like I always say, you have to look at what else is out there for the same money. I sure hope you can strike a deal with him but he buys and sells so he may just sit on it for awhile. Who knows?

    Hi SF...

Who knows what he's cooKing up??? With the ideas that he works with, I'd think that getting rid of it and moving on was the better use of $$$.
I don't think it will 'fetch' any more in the spring. The shine will be a little less and the economy won't be any better. Snows and winters last a looooooong time in VT, and he'll be looking at it every time he goes into his 'heated garage'.
I don't take many hits, but I don't put myself out there until I do allot of research. The nothing ventured thing is B$, in this day and time. Some peeps want a big payday and some are happy with a little.
Oh well, more bigger fish in the sea? YEP!!! And tastier ones too!!!
It's about 9am. I wonder if I'll get a call, or I may have ticked him off too much for him to not swallow his $8900.00 lunch.
I guess that means it would be supper, and the drinks are on him!!!
    Thanks for your support!!!
    Later,
    Bruce

Sorry to say no one is really buying anything right now. If he thinks he is going to get what he wants he is going to be disappointed. I can't even get people interested in the stuff i am trying to sell on Craigslist.

    Hey Stick, (THANKS)
He's probably a genius and were all dummies...lol.
We all know that things are slow...
It shouldn't be news to the rest of the country!!!
Unemployment is higher in Fl. than anywhere at over 10.5% right now.
Heck, I would feel guilty overpaying for anything right now.
I am really thankful that we have 2 incomes!!! And 3 kids with partial scholarships.
    And it don't come easy!!!

Car sales people never call you. The game is to out wait you. Then, if you call, they know you are interested and keep the price up.

    Hey SF...

    You are probably correct...!!!
But I really goaded him good on the phone, so it ain't hurtin me...!!! I'm not stuck with a $7000. car that won't (now)fetch $6000. As far as I'm concerned, I wouldn't give him more than $5750., for it now!!! He should have struck when the iron was hot(sorta speak), he killed that deal, for that amount of money, when he thought it would go for $7K, and turned his nose up at it.
I have plans for the Silver Streak, and just ordered about $500. worth the springs, shocks, wheel well trim and a couple of other suspension goodies.
I have 2 sets of chrome Rallye II wheels due here at the Turkey Trot in Daytona, and I have a line on a cowl hood(metal). My wagon is a really strong platform to build on, and there isn't a speck of rust to be had. Can't ask for more than that. It's up getting dual exhust now, just dropped it off for Wed., Magna Flows and all!!! My guy has some decent stainless for a customer that gave him a deposit about 6 months ago and never showed. He's a little hungry for Christmas and paying the bills, so I'm getting them(and the crossmember altered) for about $450.. I've seen his work and it's top shelf kinda stuff, he had 2 street rods getting new pipes and were purty!!!
    And way expensive!!!
    Show quality, don't ya know!!!
Arn't going there, just headers and the pipes(the headers just came in).
    I'm movin on...
    Thanks for the thoughts !!!
    Later,
    Bruce

I've only skimmed these threads about your pursuit of this car so please forgive if I've missed something and am out of line.
It seems you were outbid initially by someone who now is offering it at a higher price than it could have previously been bought for. The new seller is well aware of your desire and is going to milk it for all he can.
Ebay is a wonderful place to sell. The buyer of anything wins the dubious distinction of having established himself as the one person out of potentially millions to pay the highest price for any given object. The Olds' owner now wishes to pass the crown.
If you are convinced the auction has gotten good exposure then there is no more money to be had. The new seller needs to come to this conclusion also.
I'm pretty sure you are his best prospect but as long as you are in hot pursuit he is little motivated to lower his price. As long as he has a fish on he'll continue to play. A cooling off period is in order, that or just drop your pants and pride and pay his price.
For what it's worth I wouldn't pay that price unless at gunpoint.

    Hi Ross,
Your probably pretty much on it, but, I was not so much outbid, but he lied to get the car(that's where ethics comes into it). Had he told the truth, Randy would have NEVER sold him the wagon!!! But he is now doing the chasing and calling anyone who ever showed interest in the wagon. I don't know for sure that I am the highest bidder now, only he does. But I do know what I would give for the car, which is considerably less than he has invested. That said, who knows??? I do know if it isn't sold soon, he won't be readily able to get it out of Vt. Also, we know that he is jonesing to sell it... so whatever... I'd love the car(for my price), but common sense isn't always at play, here. He has my # and once he bounces around for a while, I think he'll call....or not!!!
I can exsist either way, as I have already started another project, but i can afford the '80 also. Best case...We'll see.
My main thing now is that he doesn't rip off some unsuspecting person for his overpriced TOY, and all his hype !!!
Thanks,(and do I appreciate your thoughts)
    Bruce
