We have known for several years now that Stephan, the owner of this site has gone radio silent. Numerous attempts to reach him have failed. Stationwagonforums.com is a ship adrift at sea without a Captain (Administrator). We still have at least one Moderator, but that role has limited ability to fully manage the site. Last year we had a big scare that the domain name registration was due to expire and we could lose the forum. It appears to be on an auto-renew payment, but for how long? Just recently, the forum was offline due to "server bandwidth limit exceeded" - something we have never seen before. There is a real possibility that this ship may slowly sink without our Admin. As mentioned in another thread, it may be possible for us as a group to takeover the domain name registration and keep "stationwagonforums.com" pointing to its current IP address. We still have no Admin control of the forum nor the ability to root out and remove the spam bots. The biggest problem is that we have no idea where this forum is hosted and who to contact even if we wanted to keep paying the hosting bills to keep the site alive. Many of us have known each other here 10 years or more. This site is coming up on its 20th birthday. We are Station Wagon Family. I hate to think of the possibility of losing touch with everyone in the event this forum goes dark for good. We can always start a new forum home, but we have to be able to find each other again. I would like to propose that we compile an emergency contact email list to be used in the event of such a site failure. This would be kept private in the hands of our fearless Moderator @HotRodRacer Please consider sending HotRodRacer a Private Message with your email or other preferred method of contact. Hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst.... Much love, my friends. Steve
Ah, in this forum software it is called "start a conversation". Click on their name next to forum post. Click Start a Conversation. or click the envelope icon in the top right corner. Start a New Conversation. Start typing their name in the box and you should see a popup of their name and avatar. Click it to finish filling in the field.
It is registerd by proxy, which hides the owner of the domain and the contact info. Then you have to use the "Contact Domain Owner" function, which I have used repeatedly with no response.
I have first name for sure, and I am 98% positive about the last name. Montreal, Quebec resident (90% positive) and no obits returned. Last active on LinkedIn May 2024. Reached out via LinkedIn, and also to the person who made the post he liked (they have the same last name). No response from either. I am open to other ideas for sure.
The other site I am on basically just started a new site from scratch and migrated what they could over to the new site leaving the old site with tumbleweeds blowing through. I'm not sure if we have the traffic here to warrant going to that extreme though. It would be a shame to lose all of the information we have here.
Kevin, that would be a last ditch move if this site goes dark. As long as this ship stays afloat, we will ride it as far as it takes us.
