"I drive a 1988 Caprice Wagon in Japan.
The other day, I lightly hit the edge of the rear bumper.
Is it possible for this thick bumper to bend?
Also, if I need to replace it, are new bumpers still available?

Good afternoon from San Antonio, Texas.
The bumpers that General Motors installed on those cars are designed to compress at eight kilometers per hour or less, to protect anyone inside the car. Therefore, the bumper mounts would need replacement after any collision; if the bumper itself is dented, a metal shop can smooth the dent out and rechrome the bumper if it needs it.

Pictures of the damage would help determine what might need to be done.
