1968 Ford Country Squire: I'm drooling over this

I'm seriously thinking of bidding on this 1968 Squire and selling my 1977 Squire. Yes, the wood is re-done and there is a small dent, but the paint is original, and it has 53,000 miles.

Anybody want to critique this one?

 

It’s a very pretty car. And the wood is done correctly with the planking. You would definitely want an indoor space for it as that Sunlit Gold paint would not be long for this world in the day to day California sun. The obvious only nitpick things are I would 86 the 1966 wheel covers. They certainly have style, and the ‘68 standard wheel cover is arguably less impressive to some, but that’s strictly a personal observation. I’m a correct wheel cover freak. As 1968 was the first year for the deluxe wire wheel cover, the turbine style, that’s what I would put on it. The only other two things that popped out to me is the description indicates an am/fm stereo. I think I only spotted an am radio in the dash, and don’t see any evidence of rear speakers in the cargo area. I would also be curious to what caused the front seat condition. It looks like something sat on the seat backs that compressed it. It either needs to be taken apart carefully, and restored, or rebuilt if it’s a seat frame issue. If these are original seats they are in remarkably good shape as far as the materials. The seat pattern is also correct. Sticking with the interior I would like to also know the condition of the steering wheel under that cover. The hub of the wheel looks very nice. 1968 steering wheels did not age well. With that big center base the ends tended to pull and curl away from the edges. This one looks good. Again, I’m from Missouri, show me. I’m just suspect of wheel covers. Also I’m not 100% confident this car hasn’t had some paint work, at least along the lower section. Good luck, it looks to be a very nice wagon, and you don’t often see them with the RH mirror.

That’s always the $64,000 question. I would think this would go in the 25-30 range. If two people have to have it, it could approach maybe high 30’s to 40 ish. . I’ve seen this car on Ebay before, but don’t remember what it went for. I’m revising my post as I did research it on previous auctions and it sold for $40,000. It sold in April of ‘22 for $30,000. At that point the car was in Florida. It was delivered new to Denver according to the window sticker.

section actually says the car HAS been re-painted as well as the rails surrounding the Wood Gran. Honestly, I was 99%
Sure it was a re-paint anyway. I mean, if the "original paint" was THAT nice, why would you have to replace the original
Wood Grain. When you lie about even one thing in the description, then everything else comes into question. I don't
mean to be a downer on the car. It shows well. Just am "OLD SCHOOL" and hate being lied to in any capacity. Any car I
have Ever sold on Ebay has gotten the feed-back "Even Nicer than described" I'm proud of that.

 

That wagon was sold less than 3 years ago on BAT. I wonder why the Ebay seller is getting rid of it.

I'm not spending 40,000 on that wagon, or even 30,000. Top price I'm willing to bid is 20,000.

it did sell in 2022 for $30k and did sell last year for $40 k. I agree with your assessment that even though it may sell for north of 20 research is vital. If this is the buyer that paid $40 k I think he’s going to be disappointed. Don’t think this particular car has another $10,000 bump left in it.

 

Did they pull the auction? The link above doesn't work and the link in the Barn Finds article does not work either. Maybe somebody called shenanigans on the all original claim.

 

Maybe the seller got wind of our discussion page ??

 

I call shenanigans as well. I sent the seller a comment about his "original paint" assertion and mentioned the redone wood. He didn't respond to me but shortly afterwards the listing disappeared. I suspect other station wagon fans remembered that vehicle from BAT and sent him some comments. It wouldn't surprise me. In any event, if the guy was expecting the car to go for more than 40K profit he was dreaming. I bet his reserve was ridiculous.

 

If you decide to fudge the details on something that's been listed before, the internet experts will call you on it.......
