My Name is Al. Glad to have found a site with fellow wagon fanciers.I have had my 66 Pontiac Tempest Wagon since I was 16. (Im 42 now). Bought it from my dad for 500 dollars in 1983.Drove it as my only car from 83-89, where it went from 210,000 to 330,000 miles. Pulled the 326/300ST combo out(had some valvetrain noise, still ran well, however), and installed a fairly stock 1974 Grand Prix 455 with thm400. Installed no 62 428 heads and 1971 gm1 intake in place of smog/egr stuff.Later installed a type O 3.08 axle out of a 70 cutlass(in place of original 2.56 gear). Did minor body work and had car repainted red in 1992. Installed a gto hood at same time. Redid interior (bench seat with center armrest in a 66 gto pattern, in parchment leather with buckskin carpet in front and cargo area. Found some gto grills in Carlilse Pa. in 2000 to complete the gto wagon appearance. Installed aftermarket ac in 2007, and a CPT (Art Carr) extreme duty 2004r transmission this year. Plan on putting a little more rear gear in it next year. This car is very nice to cruise in and fun to work on.Has been almost like a friend instead of a car. Would like to hear similar storries from you all whom have also had your cars for a while, or still have your first car.

Check, the link in my signature below. I think I got a better price deal from Dad :p. My one and only car from 89 - 06. Needed another one to drive while rebuilding my wagon 06 to present.

Welcome, I am a newby to this site as well! My first car was a 71 Monte Carlo and I still have it as well! A lot like your story, I bought my Monte from my Father in 1986 for 1K with just over 100K orig. miles. and it was my only vehicle until the early 90's. It is the one car I will not sell! It has gone through many changes over the years as well and I have quite a few changes in mind for the future.

Post some pics of your wagon when you get a chance. The pics of my wagon are in the post below yours!

Wish I still had my first car, gawd I wish I still had it. It was a hand me down 1970 Cadillac El Dorado convertable. My aunt bought it new and gave it to me. being a kid at the time, and kids dont think so much about things, I was doing burn outs in it against this Oldsmobile Tornado , lost control and took out a fire hydrant and nailed a stop light. It snapped the frame. I look back and think how much I ruined a great car when I was 17.

:Welcome: aboard! Great story! Fine ride too, by the sounds of it.:thumbs2:

My story about buying my dad's car isn't quite as elegant. We had a scrapyard and we built up the odd hi-perf cars (his, mine and ours). The 'Ours' car happened because the NHRA changed the rules about racing big vans, in our case an aluminum-bodied bread-delivery van, with a 950 HP, 1958 Chrysler 300, 392 Hemi. Dad weighed 285 lbs, I weighed 165 lbs. We went 50/50 on the engine and powertrain to a total of $15,000 CDN$. When we got the bad news, dad decided that he really wanted a big red convertible 1965 Dodge Monaco. New white top, interior, etc. and we shoehorned this huge block under the hood - almost. We had to switch from the blower to the stock dual-quads, but they still needed a hood scoop. We had to shave off 3/8ths of an inch on the A-frames to clear the manifolds.

We got a 200 MPH speed from Mopar's Performance division, and dad was the exclusive driver. Meanwhile we both graduated from University together, and I bought a nice 1969 Caprice - 396 ragtop (1975). I moved to another city, 2 hours away. Good job, nice apartment with another grad in Accounting, both of us with nice cars (he had a new 240Z) and a revolving door on our yuppie 3 bedroom bachelor pad.

One day, my oldman calls me in a panic. All through University, he got away with speeding tickets, which back then were about $50 to $75 each. Max was $150 if they chased you.:slap:

He owed over $6,000 in fines! It seems that all the cops that came to our junkyard were training new rookies, and they had to go by the book. :biglaugh:

Could I buy his half of the car and let him 'take her out for a spin'? My buddy and I got an extra parking spot with the unused 3rd bedroom in the apartment, so I agreed.

I was almost caught by a radar plane once, except that he wasn't airborne when I passed him, but there were two cruisers across the highway at 7:30 AM on a 2 lane highway, waiting for me around a curve. They didn't have radar setup, but one of them knew my dad, and had only heard about the car. He took it for a 20 minute drive, and came back white as a sheet! :biglaugh: But I got to see those big, secret Ford V8's - 429 with dual quads as well. Chrome all over the place! No ticket that day.

Dad could only drive it if he brought his plates. Mother never found out until about 10 years later. Dad didn't want to pull the money out of the family accounts. My lucky day. Mind you, he did buy me my first car for $10! A 1962 Morris Mini-Minor rust-bucket. He was and remains my best friend even though he passed away 5 years ago. Lot of fun, he and the Hemi.:thumbs2:

About Me and My 62 Buick Special Wagon

OK, I have to admit, I joined this site because I have a wagon to sell... a 1962 Buick Special in NJ. But I can't post a classified because I haven't posted before... or something like that. I won't go into detail about the car here because I will no doubt be breaking some other posting rule. Interested parties please contact me.

Posted a photo of my car in the Pontiac photo gallery. Would like to say thanks to Jim for telling me about the place near Williamsburg. Will check it out next week.

Welcome Goat. Thanks for the picture. I get a kick of out being a "wagon fancier." Kind of like a "cat fancier!" :tiphat:

Next you'll hear us say, "I fancy seeing some waaaaahgons today Reginald!" "Oh Stormin, TiredOlReb, please paaahk your caaaaaahrs in the backyaaaaaahrd, then come and taste this Remulaaaahhhd."

Just joking around. I'd like to see some of us sipping tea with our pinky fingers up in the air.
