1950 Ford Country Squire Woodie Wagon for sale on BaT Auctions - ending August 19 (Lot #81,953) | Bring a Trailer
For a 40 year old restoration this car is incredibly well preserved. This must have been someone's pride and joy. I see a ton of pride of ownership in this car. It looks like it needs a bit of maintenance work underneath, but overall I am highly impressed. This appears to be a very honest car and I would buy it without hesitation. Very, very nice. Approved!
Agreed, but at least with an actual woodie you could kinda see where the money goes. A hopped up truck for $275k, not so much. Lol.
Yup. Market goes up. Market goes down....... I think there's been a shift. Baby boomers (like myself) and some younger folk - in their 60's now, want to have something they're familiar with, and they're more familiar with cars of the late 50's and into the 60's and 70's. THOSE values are going up. Less demand for the early 50's stuff and older. Those values are going down. Not EVERYTHING, but on average....
I mean Model Ts and Model As were going for nutso cash +25-30 years ago, same with the '55-57 Chevies. Those original owners\fans from new-ish are all aging out of the car game so now they're more specialty cars than sought after and the '60s and '70s stuff is peaking (with the '80s following right along).
I think everything spikes and has its day in the sun, but it's the plateau it falls back down to that's still high. That then becomes the new baseline, so what happens if and when there's another spike again? Yikes. I shudder to even think at what the prices could inflate to.
That’s what I’m waiting on. My ‘83 Colony Park to bring $65,000. As my dad use to wish in one hand and do-do in the other, I’ll tell which fills up first. Lol I do agree about ‘80’s cars. Bought up a few really nice Grand Marquis - $4,500-$6,000 area, about 8 years ago. Now on EBay Motors they want $10-$12,000 for bow wows. Oh well. Those will be the ‘50’s woodie cars in 30 years. They’ll be out of favor too.
Yeah, I don't think the trend we're seeing with 80s and 90s cars will be able to sustain itself at this pace, but only time will tell. Over time, it'll be interesting to see if people will value those cars as much as iron from the 70s and older. It's an interesting (and nauseating) dynamic to think about.
I think too that with the general prices of cars, especially used cars $10,000 doesn’t seem bad when a 5 year old car is selling for more than when it was new. I would have never imagined your used car as an appreciable asset. But here we are on our ear. Maybe when car prices in general level out that may permeate to those ‘80’s and 90’s cars that are now moving into the margins. I’m done buying for a while unless it’s a deal that falls in my lap, and the car better be stellar
