No Reserve: 1953 Chrysler New Yorker Town & Country Wagon for sale on BaT Auctions - ending August 19 (Lot #81,922) | Bring a Trailer Previously on BAT in Dec 2021 (Bid to $23,953 on 12/7/21, no sale)
Good lord, I'm salivating. What a beautiful car with such a supremely tasteful colour combination. Too bad about the bubbling of the paint on the one panel, as well as the wonky carpet (at least vacuum the thing! Sheesh!), but other than that this is a stunning car. I wonder why the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) ordered one of these??? That's sure more than just a fleet purchase! Maybe they bought it as a showpiece/parade car or something? That's very unlike the RCMP to buy such a luxe car. One would think they'd buy a stripped-down base model Plymouth Suburban if they needed a wagon. I can see why $23,953 didn't meet the reserve though. The current bid is at $11,255 with 7 days to go. This one will be interesting to see if it sells and for how much. I'd gladly own a car like this. If only I had that kind of coin.
Some time back, we had a member here that bought one of these, and was going through A LOT of modifications on it - drive train, suspension, brakes, you name it. Last I recall, it wasn't finished yet. Wonder what happened to it?
Well, looks like the earliest days of the RCMP started in 1873, so that would make this 1953 Chrysler the 80th anniversary year. Maybe that explains why they bought it? I also know that Summerland, British Columbia was, and still is a summer vacation destination, so it would also make sense that there could have been a parade and/or display there with this car. I'm just taking a blind shot in the dark, but that would make sense.
Well now it’s at no reserve so I guess we’ll see if it crosses over $23 k. You sure couldn’t do one this nice for that money. Would take it just as it sits, maybe minus the spot lights, but it’s sure a beautiful car.
I think so, but I'd have to look at his project thread to be sure. I'll get to it in a day or two.....
I'm gonna say that was very well purchased. I have to admit, I am a little smitten with this car. For my tastes for this era of cars, the colours are stunning. Love it. I'm sure the new owner is over the moon with his or her new purchase. What a gorgeous car.
