Here's the deal. Back in July, my wife was having some problems with pain in her jaw. Come to find out she had a main artery almost blocked going to her heart. She had 2 stints put in and all seemed well for 3 weeks. She began gaining unexplained weight and her lower abdomen area hurt. She could not lay on her stomach at night. After testing, she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She has had 3 chemos, will have surgery November 10, followed by 3 more chemos. All seems to be working well, the cancer is shrinking and she has no side effects from the drugs except she lost her hair and was a little fatigued the third and fourth day following chemo. Now......this type cancer slips up on women, especially those over 50. It is almost undetecable except for the weight gain(fluid) and the pain, which happens in the later stages. The fluid causes bloating under the waist in the stomach area. If ANY of you guys hear your wives, mothers, aunts, sisters.........any female complain of any of these symptoms, encourage her to get to the doctor immediately. Have a complete blood panel done and insist on a CA125 test. These are markers given off by the tumor. They should be 35 or under. It is simple and quick and could save her. Go on line to learn more about the CA125. I don't understand a lot about it, but it is an important test. This test should be routine, but for some reason it is not done. Even though her cancer has spread some, it is still contained in her lower stomach area. The outlook looks very good, but a few more weeks and things could have been a lot different.

Thanks, Blackfoot and all the rest of the guys, I really think she'll be fine. It has been a tough 4 months......lots going on. We know several others with the same type cancer that have been pretty much cured. Just something that we'll have to keep a close watch on for a while, but as I say, things have gone very well so far. We were afraid of the chemo, as I am sure everyone has heard the horror stories about how sick it makes you. There are new drugs that she takes the day of and 3 days after that completely prevents all the nausea and other symptoms. As I say, she lost her hair, which is starting to grow back, she is fatigued a few days after a session, and her taste seems more acute.......like ketchup tastes extremely sweet. Pretty mild overall. This in itself is something to be thankful for.

She has mild diverticulitis and was on new meds from the stint surgery, so her doc thought this was the problem with the pain. However, her regular MD sent her for the CT scan just to be safe and this is where the cancer showed up. It came on very fast and spreads even faster, but I think we caught it in time. I guess we'll see.

Hope all turns out well for you guys. I've had a pain in my jaw for a few months but I think it's TMJ. However unemployed and no insurance so Ibuprofen for now.
