A bit cold out this week and I’ve come down with a sickness that which shall not be named. So to stay occupied I pulled out this little project. Hope you are all staying safe and enjoying the new year with your hobbies. Large or small
I sure wish I knew what color I was going with. Originally it was bronze, a color I am fond of. But it seems these cars were more common this color. I just don’t want it to look like every other one. I’m thinking of a more modern bronze almost like a gunmetal with a brown gold hue. Just haven’t found the color. Probably in a German color swatch.
We have painted a number of rigs with Mercedes Benz colors. They just seem to have what we're looking for.
There's a color I'm particularly fond of, that's modern, that I saw for the first time on a dealership-bound Volvo back in the Summer of '98. It's kind of a 'brass' hue, and in the Central Cali sunshine, it looked like well-polished brass brightwork (such as you see on a Naval vessel).
It was. I was sitting at an intersection where the Volvo dealer in Sacramento is/was, whatever the case may be, and it was on a truck getting unloaded. the Sun was in the right position to make it gleam in the afternoon.
Right you are Silvertwinkiehobo !!!!!! ... you have good taste !!!! It is a beautiful color and I have never seen anything else comparable Volvo calls it Saffron Pearl Metallic code 435 I repaired and painted a fender back in the day ... from memory it was a 3-stage paint .... base ... pearl .... clear I was able to get factory paint from my dealership and got it to match perfectly. ToyboxO6 ... I chanced upon your thread yesterday and it was like a good book I could not set down until I read it all .... haaa I am a (retired) auto body tech and painter and admire your workmanship and detail ... and confess I have never seen such good metal work as Kevin Carr has done for you .... bravo to you both . .
That's it, and I can see why they called it 'saffron.' If I had kept my '74 Ranchero Squire, I would've replaced the ugly yellow with this, and the woodgrain with a dark sable. The 'trim' pieces would've been a bone white, to resemble birch.
Thank you for the kind words. I hope it doesn’t get too boring. I’m a bit stalled out at the moment saving for all the parts I need. And it’s really cold lol
I thought I’d throw up a couple of colors I’ve been looking at. The first one I have really been contemplating. It’s Fords bronze fire Metallic it might have just a bit too much red but it is currently the leading color choice. Next is a couple of Porsche colors as the Porsche colors go I think the last one is closer to the direction of color I’m leaning. Lastly I have to consider costs. I really don’t want to pay 1k per gallon for color.
