    "...... factory GM built wagon...."

Well, not EXACTLY. The Cadillac was built in a GM factory, but as a 4-door hardtop, NOT a station wagon. It would have been CONVERTED INTO a wagon by some coachwork firm, using the roof, quarter glass and tailgate from a '65 - '70 full-sized GM wagon.

Boy, would you need a peck of cash to put that back to its former glory. Is it me? The dash looks ‘73, but the grill, front assembly looks ‘75-76ish.

Doesn't look like it even has a tailgate that opens.

I am not used to seeing these adaptations not with a clam back...would this make this rare?

From the coachwork company's point of view, it just makes it cheaper to do the conversion. I'd guess about 50-70 less man-hours to install this back end instead of the clamshell bits and mechanicals - maybe more. Based on pics of this generation of converted Cadillac wagons, I'd guess it's about 50%-50% as to which back end it has. (And if it's in this poor condition, how 'rare' it is doesn't matter as much....)

Yup - the '65 - '70 generation. Since this one has the 2-way gate though, it's either '69 or '70 parts.
