Plastic chairs are the only thing that separates the ride I had in the bed of Mr. Dugan’s new 1969 Ford Truck when he picked it up at the dealer and today. Wonder if you could still legally ride in the back of that thing? Inquiring minds want to know.
[QUOTE=" Wonder if you could still legally ride in the back of that thing? Inquiring minds want to know.[/QUOTE] Sure as long as the seat belts are still installed, and you buckle up. They were rated to seat 4 people to get around the import duty and restriction on Japanese Built light trucks that were in place in those years. I see no reason why you could not seat people back there. Just like you don't have to add any safety equipment to cars that were built before that equipment was mandated.
I took a ride 'back there' in a friend's parents' Brat. I literally was head and shoulders above the cab, and will never do that ever again. I frankly thought the truck import duty was bunk anyway; it was instituted when Californians were buying Nissan's first pickups in the '60s. Which was no big deal, as the home factory refused to increase production and exportation, on the opinion they were only 'work' vehicles.
