Very few of these are around now, as opposed to the Mark IIIs, which are everywhere. Even has the period correct dual white stripe tires. Many more pics needed. 1970 Lincoln Continental | eBay
. My comment is about Lincoln colors of that era. Years ago I painted a 1969 Lincoln 4 door ... I recall it had suicide doors ... it was a very dark green with a slight trace of metallic .... at first glance it looked black , and at night it looked completely black .... but when sunlight hit the curved areas it came thru as dark green .... a most intriguing color and I still think about it to this day .... always wanted to paint something else that color but never did Also painted a black first edition 1956 Lincoln Coupe ... rare car , only about 3000 built ... the owner also owned a baby T-Bird that Marilyn Monroe drove in a movie ... I painted it also , and it also was black. Ahhh the memories .... .
It’s funny I don’t remember that green on a lot of full size Ford’s and Mercury’s in 1970, if it was even available. But by 1971 holy moly, I remember that color on a ton of ‘71’s, especially Torino’s. Think by ‘72 it was gone. Wasn’t fond of it then, but really like it now.
. Yes ... it was rare . The 1969 Lincoln I painted was the only time I ever saw that color on any car .... although it was listed in the dealer color options and my paint formula books ... it was also called "Midnight Green" and looked almost black. I am familiar with the dark greens you mentioned on those later Torinos etc .... but that was a completely different color (Not nearly as dark) I have painted thousands of cars and thousands of colors yet for some reason that midnight green Lincoln still sticks in my mind. Even the owner of the Lincoln was captured by the unique color .... he interviewed (interrogated) me over and over to make sure I painted it the exact color .... he finally dropped it off at my shop but made me mix a gallon of the paint in advance so he could make double sure .... (Job turned out perfect and he was very happy) .
. jwdtenn ... sorry to clutter up your thread with my Lincoln memories , hope you don't mind 60Mercman (and everybody) .... I lucked out and found an example of the dark green I have been trying to describe. Turns out to be a 1966 MGB in the UK .... either they used the Lincoln color , or somebody did a great job of duplicating it. You can see how it looks black on the side in the shade and dark green on the hood where the light is Even though I do not typically like green cars I still love this color. .
It reminds me of those BASF paints that color-shift. Did the mixture you made have that kind of property to it?
Trying to remember the Lincloln color but the MGB to me is British Racing Green and I saw them everywhere during the mid 60s.
Modern paints color shift ... back then no such thing unless you went to custom paint such as House of Kolors or mother of pearl etc. The Lincoln green had a small amount of very fine metallic in the formula .... couldn't really see it but did reflect light to draw out the green tone. Code C on the chart .
