I seem to recall reading something about the Checker police cars at some point in the not-so-distant past. If I remember correctly they were quite rare, largely due to the fact that their straight 6 power plants made them less than stellar in getting the officers to the scene of the crime in a timely manner.
At least if they did catch the bad guy, they had plenty of legroom in the back seat.

I know in the early’60’s Chicago had some Checker cop cars and an endless sea of Cabs. That poor Aspen sure wasn’t long for this world.

So I bought some Texas longhorn steer horns for Roger today:

Although, they make Roger look more like Loki, than Lucky the Promiscuous Bull....

It's actually factory-style dual exhaust for Joe's '66 Merc. Came out of a '66 Galaxie with the same drivetrain. We got those and a pair of 390 exhaust manifolds.

Ugh. Two bolts broke, and they simply didn't want to drill out, so we installed the manifolds and exhaust anyway, and clamped the two ears to the head. We'll likely pull the head somewhere 'on down the road,' and drill them out on his dad's drill press. It definitely sounds MUCH MUCH better, and cooler too. It also runs better. It just goes to show how an intact exhaust makes an engine run better.

All 8 of the top bolts in the '66 Galaxie donor car, not one hitch. Out of the eight on the Breezeway, the four driver side, and the back one on the passenger side, no problem after applying paraffin wax on the bolts with the engine hot. The front three bolts, the front one broke immediately, so I left the other two for the next day. Joe was able to get the next one to unscrew, but the bolt was a bit deformed, so it was replaced. The third one, it broke. *sigh* Those two positions, we put C-clamps on to help the gasket seal, and we'll tackle the broken bolts in a couple months by removing the head and putting the head on his dad's drill press.

I think every FE I've had the pleasure of knowing in recent years has had at least one broken bolt and almost always a cracked manifold that needed replacing.

Yeah. There's one crack in one of the new manifolds, and a crack repair in the opposite old manifold. That one was in almost one piece, save for two broken ears and nearly getting broken in two. The other old one, it was just in two pieces. The castings are thin-walled. I wonder if shot-peening a good set would relieve any fatigue stress?
