A unicorn has been found. Rare even when new, this 50 yeara old AMC is truly in amazing condition. Agree with markfnc that it is hard to tell what this will go for.

I agree on the styling and the wheels, but the color combo is terrible. That pea green with the woodgrain don't do much for me at all and then you open up the door and see the dark green interior.

    Trivia ....

Back in the 1970's I noticed a lot of sheriff and police departments were using AMC Matadors .... to me they just didnt "look" like police cars ..... so I asked why .... they said they stood up better than any of the big 3 brands.

Out of curiosity I looked it up ......

---Though the full-sized AMC Ambassador was also offered as a police car, the Matador would prove to be very popular. The largest user of Matador patrol cars was the Los Angeles Police Department , primarily from 1972 to 1974.

---After extensive testing of the special police models offered by Chevy, Ford, and Chrysler, the LAPD chose the AMC Matador because they "out handled and outperformed all the other cars

---Matador sedans and station wagons were also used by other agencies, including the Los Angeles Sheriffs Department, and the Los Angeles Fire Department

---While V8 power was down for many domestic sedans, AMC used a 401 cu in engine that out-powered most other police vehicles.

---Tests of the 1972 AMC Javelin pony car and Matador sedan equipped with the 401 V8s resulted in both running the quarter-mile dragstrip in the 14.7-second range. 0 to 60 mph times were within 7 seconds, comparable to a 2006 Hemi Charger police car.

---The top speed was about 125 mph which took 43 seconds, much faster than the previously used Plymouth Satellites.

---The high-performance 401 V8 was last available in 1975 only for fleet- and police-ordered sedans.

i would agree on the colors. The outside with a tan or black interior, or a dark green with that interior would be ok, buy the way it looks just clashes. even for the 70's

American Motors was very aggressive with public bids for government fleet vehicles during this period as well. The Alabama State Police, among others ran Javelins at the time.

It's the ugly whitewalls and not the ridiculous Jim Babish Auto Sales Inc price that is keeping that from selling.

    Sincerely,
    Jim Babish

    SOLD FOR $28,000 ON 10/18/21
Got to be a record for an early 70's AMC wagon. Jim Babish Auto must like these results.

Maybe Jim should take a hint and swap out the wide whites for thin stripes on Magnum 500’s
