This car looks extremely beautiful with the exception of the wood grain, anybody else notice that it looks wrong?

I don't even think it's Di-Noc vinyl. Looks like a bad attempt at a faux woodgrain finish - with house paint.

Looks like the vinyl they use on press board furniture. It is in the land of IKEA isn't it ?

Image from the 1977 Pontiac brochure on top. I'd be hard-pressed to say that the wood-grain siding isn't original.

Think you may be right jaunty, it does look like the original. Love to know how it lasted 44 years.

I’m sorry but it looks like the brochure in the photos where the grain is in the shade…but the last 2 photos (sorry I can’t post them), the close ups if the rear of the car, it looks painted over with brown paint. And this is the sides that the light is shining on…couldn’t be shadows.

It really doesn’t make sense as the rest of the car looks original and immaculate

I thought something else looked off. The rear window air deflector should be wood grain, if factory correct.

I've seen way more without wood grain on the deflector vs. with, I honestly don't know which is correct because it could have been an option or a supplier\factory-dependent thing.

The woodgrain on this car *looks* correct but it's way shiny, like it's been waxed or treated with something. Makes it hard to say for sure as it could very well have been redone in the past 44 years. I had a '79 one that still had its woodgrain and it was similar to what you see here, but nowhere near as pretty.

When I said, this, what I meant is that I believe that the car originally came with woodgrain siding. Yes, it looks different from the brochure (faded, brighter, whatever), but 44 years of weather and failed attempts to restore it can do that. I DON'T think that this is a car that came originally without the siding, and it was added later.
