It looks like a tilt steering column, but how does it work? I don't see a separate lever for it like the GMs of the era. The more I look at it, the more I like it, too. And I don;t think the price is terrible, even for a dealer.
Another cool feature. The stereo radio dial manually flips from AM to FM. It's true - I have owned one. (Plus the windshield wipers switch hides in the 5th instrument panel pod.)
Jwdtenn. I don’t think I’ve ever seen you so enamored with a car on here before. You can certainly see you have a love of these Bunkie beak birds. Would you ever get another one? I totally agree these are real treasures. Just have been enjoying watching your posts.
The AM/FM in our '67 Biscayne works the same way. There is a barrel inside the radio that had the AM and FM scales on them. When you switched between AM/FM, the barrel would turn to present the proper scale. I don't generally care for this version of the Thunderbird, but the colors on this do make the care look nice. It is also helpful that it doesn't have body colored hubcaps.
Ha ha! It's not the 1971 model for sale in TX. It's a very similar 1970 2-door with the extremely rare factory power sunroof option and with high back bucket seats and console Special Brougham option. Same design. Looks very similar to this 1970 Ford promo photo. Britt Ekland not included. ( I will post more info and real photos when I can.)
And here is a super cool Thunderbird commercial. 1970 ford thunderbird commercial long BW PanAm 747 Introduction - YouTube
Yep - the 429 Thunder Jet V8 was the standard and only Thunderbird engine for model years 1969 through 1971.
Or it could be an auburn (the color, not the car). Those were some popular colors in those earthy times.
