Spare hubcap removed. The round cover screws down, keeping the wheel from rattling around while driving.
Here is the sling in action. There is an attachment point in front of the tire. The sling sits under the spare, and the handle is on the rear. When you pull then handle, it gives you much greater leverage in removing the full-size spare.
This is the jack that is held against the outside by the two wingnuts you see at either end. Large wingnut is holding a bracket over the jack handle, keeping the jack closed. The smaller blue wingnut at the front just holds the front foot in place. Just under the jack, on the left side of the picture, you can see where the sling is attached. Also seen directly under the jack lifting plate is the bar that goes through the center of the wheel. That is where the round plate screws down, keeping the wheel from rattling around while traveling. (See picture #4 above)
Hope these pictures and commentary helps! Let me know if there's anything else you would like to see more of, and I'm happy to help.
I actually like GM's redesign of the jacks. I had my '70 Delta 88 fall off once, and that took a few years off my life.
Thanks for the pics. I tried to get mine to work with the jack in-place, but couldn't. I need to try it again. Thanks again.
