https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1975-imperial-lebaron-crown-coupe/ Black with black interior. I'm partial to these as my dad had a 75 4 door when i was in middle school.
That is how you present a car. There is an old saying in advertising - " Don't sell the steak, sell the sizzle ! " lot of steak and sizzle here. I would love to have this car and usually rank 70s Imperials last behind Lincolns and Cadillacs in personal preference.
States it was purchased 'new' by Richard Carpenter (of the 'Carpenters' musical duo fame), for use by his parents. Richard Carpenter is a well-known Chrysler Corp. vehicle enthusiast. Has a decent collection of 60's / 70's vehicles. Here's a link: https://www.richardandkarencarpenter.com/Auto-00_Auto Collection.htm
I AM IN NO WAY A CHRYSLER FAN ! But I have to admit that this car intrigues me, love that front couch (seat) !.....Longroofs Rule!
It is a nice car in amazing condition. I would have never guessed it would bring anywhere near that much though.
I think it's a combination of the right shape (near perfect and 17k miles), colors (triple black looks good no matter on most cars), and provenance (it's definitely Harold Carpenter's old car) all combine to make it have value. It likely would be worth a chunk of change without the celebrity angle, but that connection probably pushed it over into a different class of buyer.
I learned that the triple black cars, no matter what model, were hand-picked at the various Chrysler factories out of the lines because they had little to no waving in the body panels. That meant extra special care in priming, in painting and in final assembly, to ensure a very special car.
