I had forgotten about this short lived performance LTD model from the mid 1980's. A coworker bought one new and I was Surprised how good it was for the time. I would have bought one if you could have gotten a manual trans in it. I ended up getting a Thunderbird Turbo Coupe instead. Not perfect condition but expected to sell for less than $5000. https://rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/af20/auburn-fall/lots/r0270-1985-ford-ltd-lx/941715
I have never seen one of these in person. Neat car, I'm not sure what market exists for such a car though.
These have a fairly decent following considering their rarity. Conversion to a 5 speed is pretty easy using Mustang parts. I could use the front seats and console for my car.
A bit of both. They are all built on the fox chassis. The LTD is just the Mustang chassis stretched 5". Any Mustang suspension/steering/brake part within reason will fit the LTD or Thunderbird.
It's the civilian upscale version of Ford's LTD Police Interceptor, which was the only other way to get a V8 in a Fox chassis sedan, after the Fairmonts disappeared.
You can learn something every day. Was not aware of this model. Could see this being a fun ride with a 5 spd, plus there is all kind of things being done to those 5.0s.
That was my thoughts back in 1985 when I got a chance to ride in the 1 my coworker had, I was really impressed with the car. Then dissapointed to find out they were automatic only. I was happy with the Turbo Coupe I ended up buying, But the sleeper LTD would have been alot of fun I think.
This one is in better condition (IMO) already converted to 5 speed and cheaper. I think the buyer of the auction car way overpaid given its condition. http://vb.foureyedpride.com/showthread.php?190914-1985-LTD-LX-for-sale
