It is great shape for what it is. I just can't see paying almost $5000 (with non working a/c) for a fancy Chevette. It's pretty well equipped with Automatic, A/C, AM/FM Stereo, and a remote drivers side sport mirror. (I don't remember another GM model that sport mirrors did not come in pairs.) I remember stripping the sunvisor mounts to replace the broken plastic ones on every Vega/Astre I ever owned. Small dent on the drivers rear, and something is not right with the front end alignment. The Camber looks awful. https://houston.craigslist.org/cto/d/houston-1986-pontiac-t1000-all-original/7172253537.html
This very cute little '1000' is just screaming for a set of 14 or 15" alloys and some low-profile rubber......
Nice little car but with non working a/c and that crease above the L/R tail lamp it doesn't likely to move at that price.
That camber look is something I see on a lot of cars driven by younger dudes acting cool. I agree, I don't think you could give me a car like this for free, much less for $5000. The AC not working is an insult at that price.
The automatic kills it for me. Having A/C AND the automatic makes for a VERY slow car, with such a little engine. Hmmm........wondering what MODERN 4-cylinder, with more power, might work under that hood. Maybe a GM Ecotec 2.2 from a S-10 P/U? (Or would it be too big?)
Cannot be too many of these still surviving. That said, as mentioned, who would want one at any price?
Grizz the only thing I can think of using it for is a cheap 1/4 mile car. About 10 years ago I guy I used to know had one given to him, and he had a 301 4bbl sitting in his garage he didn't know what to do with (less than 40,000 miles on it, bulled from a GP to put a 400 in it) It fit almost like it was made to go in the car, after alittle tuning he had it running in the high 12 second range for almost $0.00. Untill the mighty 301 ripped the rear axle almost out of the car! But not for a $5000 starting price.
http://smclassiccars.com/chevrolet/...sic-diesel-1982-chevy-chevette-62k-miles.html Not a Pontiac but Chevette Diesel. 0-60 in not quit there yet.
"injection pump rebuild" is the kiss of death for one of those older diesel engines. Trying to find someone who knows how to rebuild this limited quantity diesel IP from 35+ years ago is difficult and rebuild parts are almost impossible to find. The injection head wears the housing out and needs to be sleeved (or the head replaced). The tolerances are difficult for the average hobbyist to get to. Interesting how that ad says it needs the "AC" fixed, when it's a heater car...
