My arm rests chrome has "faded" to the plastic color. I found the front repops, but no luck with rear. I have heard of chrome paint but I don't think that's the way to go. Any input or suggestions are greatly appreciated!.....Longroofs Rule!
The plastic metalizing process is an aluminum deposition applied in a vacuum chamber which is sometimes sealed with a topcoat either in chamber or afterwards, alternatively some plastics can be chrome plated such as the base plates we mold for Harley Davidson tail lamps. Pm jmtT455 as he had his tail lamp reflectors metalized and should be able to give you the companies contact.
Thanks for the info kevdupuis, I'll message jmT455 to see if he can put on the right path.....Longfoofs Rule!
Got ahold of vacuumorna-metal.com yesterday to get a quote for doing my arm rests. Talked to the boss (Frank) he told me to send pictures of them and he would reciprocate a quote. $38.50 each. Thanks to kevdupis and jmt455 for the information.....Longeoofs Rule!
Happy to help, I remembered when jmt455 had his done because I was interested which process they used to metalize his reflectors since we use 2 main types, an antique vacuum chamber system that uses high current run through coils to vaporize aluminum strips and an opposing current run through the parts to be metalized attached to a spinning reel. We also use a fixed frame system that uses an electron gun to vaporize metal on an aluminum target which is then deposited on to the oppositely charged parts.
WoW, whata process AND dat's 'some kinda equipment". Thanx for the explanation, pretty neat (in my world anyway).
