I believe 2005 was the last year for the Taurus wagon (on this body...) A little bit different front seating area, too. Previous years either had buckets with a floor shift console, or a split-bench with fold-down 'consolette'. This one has a column shift, buckets, and some sort of storage box replacing the shifting console..... first I've seen of this.
These are good cars as long as they don't get rusty. When I was back in the automotive industry we were working on power seat tracks for the "new" '96 Taurus so we had a company vehicle/test mule Taurus that we would use. It had a similar setup with buckets, column shift and this flip up folding kind of cool console/armrest thing. Looks similar to the one in this car.
Looks clean. We had two Taurus sedans as well as a Mercury Sable. Each of the Taurus' were column shit and had the flip forward cup holder/storage compartment. It's actually the base of the middle "seat" section. You raise the armrest, flip forward the seat base and viola! Cup holders and storage.
Learn something new everyday right? If we hadn't owned such a car in the past I wouldn't have known what it was either
