Don't take this the wrong way but you must be young, very young. My Dad's first car was a 37 Plymoth convertable coupe, mine was a 63 Buick special convertable and your Grandpa's first car was a 53???? Oh he must have bought it when he was ..... 35 years old. My grandfather's first new car was a 1927 Ford model T touring. I think he paid around $300 for it new. You are making me feel elderly.
Plenty old enough to do anything but drink. I feel about 25 but I'm not. Every once in a while I get reminded of that. Darn it. Hopefully cars will still be legal in another 40 years for you. I took me that long to have a car I don't need to enjoy.
He is only 18 Tbird. My dads first car was a 52 Oldsmobile Super 88 Holiday hardtop with the 303 Overhead valve V8 3 on the tree. Very rare car, back even when they were new. He is 66 this year. His first brand new car was a 62 Impala 409 425 hp 4 speed. He owned many other cool cars too. 55 Chevy Vert, 57 Crown Vic, 57 Chevy 283 Fuelie, 67 Galaxie 500 XL 7 liter 4 speed, 73 Laguna S3, 87 Grand Prix 2+2.
My grandpa's first car was a 1928 Jewett, when he was 16, in 1946. He bought his first new car when he was 18, a 1949 Nash, good ol' upside-down bathtub. Dad's first car, he bought from Grandpa, the good ol' 66 Caprice Mine was a 60 Bel-Air.
Im a bit older now, but my first wagon was when I was 19. It was a 1995 Saturn SW2. I had to have my mom co-sign on the loan, and the only reason she did it is because it was a wagon. Little did she know that I was gonna strip it down, turn it into a drag car, and run 11s! I loved that car, and still to this day would kill my brother for blowing it up if I could get my hands around his neck. It made a little over 400HP and the transmission just couldn't handle it. It came apart under serious load and it was all over. When all was said and done both axles were twisted and broken, the trans was in about 300 pieces, and there was a spider gear in the oil pan. That's right, IN the oil pan! past the clutch, threw the flywheel, threw the block, and down into the pan. I was so mad I didn't even have any thing to say. Im looking for another one, but can't seem to find any at all. There are some young guys out there that like wagons, there just few and far between. My friends think Im crazy!
Here! Here! I agree completely. I enjoy the comfort, and who wants to spend $20-$30K for hard seats and plastic interiors and body parts? My daughter's friends always liked riding in our station wagon because they all fit, and it was such a comfortable ride. I think that this forum/ASWOA club is doing better than many of the older clubs, like AACA, because we cover the spectrum of cars original and customized. Also- station wagons (whoops, I mean "crossovers"- yeah whatever!) are making a comeback as people seek a "hauler" other than trucks and vans.
