Since when is having a volts gauge and an oil pressure gauge being "hi-tech?" If I'm paying extra for a "gauge package," I want actual gauges.

Well true. However I’m sure the average Caprice buyer in 1984 was probably north of 60. There probably weren’t that many ordered with the gauge package to begin with. And those that came with it, the owners were probably impressed with the trip odometer, and the fuel economy gauge.

Hey, my dad would have been a young 41 when he bought our Caprice Estate wagon in 1984. (Although IIRC it did not have the gauge pack.)

I was selling Chevrolet’s and ordered my folks Caprice Estate wagon for them. I ordered the gauge package more for looks than their usage. I bet my mom didn’t even set the trip odometer. They were 64 and 62 respectively. If I had a dime for every time they used the cruise and tilt wheel I would probably have like $.70 cents. Lol

hey I was 27 when I bought my 1979 Bonneville wagon, a whopping 31 when I got the 82 Country Squire and an old man in 89 when I got my Colony park. and my wife was driving a 82 Olds Ciera wagon, and yes they both had wood grain.
We would not ever have bought a mini van - we both agreed that a mini van would have been more convenient, but we just couldn't do it!

Agree there are exceptions. I was 25 when I bought my first new Grand Marquis, (‘86) I had an ‘83 right after college. I’ve always like older people type cars. I remember reading a GM slick on the average Caprice buyer. The average Corvette buyer at that time was 54

That's even below the average age of active forum members

Well fortunately we are getting some new members that are in their 30’s and 40’s. It does my heart good that with the big FoMoCo woody wagons leaving us in ‘91 and the GM’s shortly thereafter that a new generation of wagon enthusiasts have sprung up. There are certainly “new” wagons, and wagons of all sizes still out there, but the big American trucksters are what I’m eluding to. We certainly love what we grew up with. Nice that a new wave of lovers is behind us!

. I remember reading that as well, I thought it was 55 but regardless, the average age was apparently why the digital speedo numbers were made that big.

The same goes for Harleys, in Germany. Dimestore Bikers get their first Harleys, once they've grandfathered out
