How many here now have or have ever had a car with its own name? Whats the wagon (or other car)?, do you currently own it? , whats the name? and how did your car get it's name?

Here are the cars I have, or have had that have names.

2002 VW Passatt wagon, currently owned. Named, "Piss-what", because I made the mistake of telling friends that whenever I had my 90+ year old mother in that car, and she asks what kind of car it it, she responds with, "Piss-what?" when I tell her its a VW Passatt.

1991 Ford Taurus wagon, long gone, but affectionately named "the Family Truckster" after the 'car in the "Vacation" movie of course

1964 Ford Country Sedan wagon, long gone, but known by everyone as, "Christine", sharing its name with the Plymouth in the movie of the same name. The car's powder blue paint had turned to powder, and it was in need of an extreme makeover, but everyone loved it. Still, it was the line in the movie, "you can't polish a turd" that created the connection leading to the name. It wasn't until later that the car's thirst for blood became apparent, as it developed a taste for small woodland creatures and birds. Many a squirrel, rabbit, and groundhog, would literally throw themselves under the car at the last possible moment. Once, I remember a buddy was driving and I pointed out that a large bird was in the road ahead. He responded, 'its a bird it will fly away". We realized too late it was a chicken.

67 Dodge Coronet convertible (high school car back in the late 70's and long ago rusted into oblivion) Bloody Mary was named by my high school buddies cause she was red and she was bleeding me dry

66 Dodge Coronet 500 hardtop. I had it back in the 80's and should never have sold it. Unmolested, with original white paint, it was a pretty straight survivor car. Of course the same friends named it Virgin Mary.

68 Barracuda Formula S fastback. I still own this one though it needs restoration. A buddy named Lee restored the car in the early 80's then sold it to another friend who had it for 10 years before I bought it. A few years after I bought it I stopped by Lee's mother's house, the first time the car had been parked in front of that house in at least 12 years. As I was leaving and went to open the car door, a little old lady watched intently from the front porch of a house across the street and called out, "Get away from there, thats Lee's car!!" It will always be known as, "Lee's car".

67 Coronet 500 convertible. I recently had it repainted a factory 1967 Dodge red color, but for years I drove it with bright orange paint courtesy of the previous owner. It became known as "the Pumpkin" . Still, I thought it would loose the name after repainting it, but the name stuck, and last night coming out of a restaurant, everyone noticed that under the artificial lights of the parking lot, it looked orange all over again.

67 Dodge Coronet 500 hardtop. I am now putting it back together after a decent but inexpensive Maaco repaint in 1967 Dodge bright blue metallic. Only thing is, theres a little too much metallic in the paint, so its already gained the nickname, "The Bass Boat" .

I've had many other cars and trucks over the years but these are the only ones that got names that stuck.

The only car/truck I have ever named is our 65 GMC truck. I had lots f people tell me it needs a name but I never gave it a second thought "untill" I burnt the valves on the head. The green truck is fixed now but I named it "Purple Haze" and still refer to it that way:p

Purple Haze is a great name. Sorry about how the truck got its name.

A friend's 67 Charger has the nickname, "the Discharger" because of a series of electrical issues he had with the car. Of course any time a car recieves its name from a single breakdown event, there is also the possibility of the owner being the one to recieve the nickname if it turns out the owner is at fault. For example another friend had a minor electrical fire under the dash of a 68 Dart GTS 383 hardtop he owned at one time. What caused the fire? He put the battery in backwards and negative to positive and positive to negative and poof! He had to replace the engine harness and the under dash harness. He sold the car years ago, but every now and then, someone will call him by the nickname he earned that day. "Sparky".

My 98 Monte Carlo is "Betsy", no clue why, just started calling her that 8 years ago and it stuck.

The Blue 92 RMW has a few names. "Blue", "Longboard", "Woodie", "Roadie".

I haven't given the recently bought white 93 RMW a name yet, she will get one soon.

I also just found a clapped out late 70's Pinto Wagon that I might be picking up, if I can 1st talk the wife into it and 2nd if I can get him to come down a little in price. Its under a grand, but too close to that much for the condition it is in. It looks fairly solid, but I really need to look it over good. It even has the rare V6 option instead of the pansy 4 banger.

Mostly it's a descriptive adjective that refers to a pain in the lower posterior. :banghead3:

I've only got the one wagon, but I've thought about a few names:

FairStang or SquireStang (Mustang Dash and future Turbo 2.3 Mustang powertrain).

and "Rollered Coaster", since I roller-painted it and sometimes, lately, I've had to push it out of a parking spot to get a boost.

But when she's good, she's very good, so I pat her on the dass (uh dash) and call her Lizzie. When she's stubborn, I call her Betsy, and she behaves, usually. :D

My names aren't particularly imaginative, all of them stemming from model designations. My VN Commodore was called "Vinnie", the VP was "Vippie", etc etc. My 2 current cars are slightly more creative. THe VZ wagon is called "WAGON" (or "rainbow" according to my daughter:D) and my Holden Vectra is called "Victoria".

P.S. I nearly fell out of my chair at the "oh, wait. It's a chicken" comment.

If you got a voice-activated remote starter, you'd probably start a lot of similar cars.

My wife and I call our 67 Valiant Margaret, the original owners name. When we got it there was and still is a pillow in the back window with her name on it. I wish I could meet the lady that brought Margaret to us.

I used to name my cars, but I haven't in a while. We're a boating family and have always named them. Here's the list:

Dad's 34' Sea Ray: Herself (we sold that when he passed away in '06)
Brother John's 29' Sea Ray: Not Quite Herself
My 22' Sea Ray: Beside Herself
My divorced female friend's 23' Searay: All By Herself
My brother's 21' SeaRay who lives 300 miles from the rest of us: Far From Herself

My dad called his 1958 Ranchwagon the BratMobile, back in 1958. I don't think the Batmobile was out then. 5 kids, all under 10, says it all;).
