Definitely not a Landau. This was about as basic a Monte as you could get in 1977. Vinyl roof looks dealer installed. The surround moldings do not look factory.

[IMG]The moldings should be color-keyed and textured like in this photo to be factory.

It does have tinted glass & a Tilt Column, but the cruise control is aftermarket, and I agree that the Vinyl top was either added by the dealer or owner. Were Power Brakes & Steering Standard On a Monte of the era?

Strange to see a 305 2bbl powered Non A/C, AM Radio, Monte that does not even have colored matched seat belts! Those cost about $7 back in the day.

I recognize that cruise control unit. I put that unit in several cars back in the '70s. Always had fun doing it, sticking magnets to the driveshaft and all.

One thing I particularly liked about the those Dana cruise controls is that they had a "Resume" feature that's standard nowadays but was not present in factory-installed cruise controls in GM cars in the '70s. All you could do with a GM cruise control was set the speed or lower the speed by holding in the button until the speed dropped to what you wanted, and then let it out to hold that new, lower speed. But if you wanted to go back to your original speed, or if you tapped the brakes to release the cruise control, the only way to reset the speed was to accelerate with the pedal back to where you were and re-engage the cruise control.

According to the '77 Chevrolet Monte Carlo brochure, yes.

It also appears to have a trailer brake controller.

You are correct on the Tilt Column, I think I somehow got confused when looking at the Cruise control unit on the blinker lever, strange that I noticed it was after market, but then confused it for a tilt lever later on?

I see the trailer hitch, but I do not see a brake controller, I see an rocker switch under the dash probably for the fog lights, and a small black unit that I assumed was either a digital Tach, or a air/fuel ratio read out.

What I saw, after I expanded the pic, appeared to be a brake controller because of the lever, but it likely is a vent control lever.

Bidding stalled at $3000 - I would not want it at any price. No AC kills it for me.

There are plenty of these for sale that are much better optioned.
