Check out these photos of Wade Ford taken September 26, 1963. Photos consist of the Dealership buildings and car lots that were located on both sides of Spring Street NW in Atlanta, Georgia. The photos were taken on “Ford Day” which was when the new 1964 models were introduced to the general public. This area of Spring Street in Atlanta was filled with car dealers during this period. In addition to the Wade Ford buildings visible on both sides of the road, past it on the left-hand side was Harry Sommers Chrysler, and on the right side Boomershine Pontiac. In the last photo (below) the Bill Spreen Volkswagen “Truck Department” is visible on the right-hand side. Courtesy of The Old Motor.
Row Motor Sales, an Oldsmobile dealer, was located at sixty-six Sheldon Street in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Research has turned up that the sales agency was in business as early as 1931 at 1121 Hall Street in the City. The latest reference to be found was from 1959 when the dealership had moved to 150 Jefferson Ave. SE and had also taken on a Rambler franchise. Courtesy of The Old Motor
This photo, taken in March of 1940, contains a view of the Mulvihill Motor Company which handled Dodge cars and trucks and the Plymouth at 1233 Chicago St. in Grand Rapids. References found about the Company date to 1947 when it was located at 1100 South Division Ave. in the City and to 1962 when it was still in operation. Courtesy of The Old Motor.
It’s funny looking at that $5,201 price sticker, I remember as a kid, in 1972 seeing that that was about the price of a nicely loaded Kingswood Estate.
Good thing that dealership isn’t it Berkeley. They would be breaking the law saying “Berkeley and her surrounding communities”. Everything must now be referred to in gender neutral terms. Man hole covers are now to be know as “maintenance covers”. I’m glad I’m getting old.
