My old power steering pump leaked like crazy! I just thought it was old, and needed to be replaced. So after getting a new pump (Not a rebuilt), I took off my reservoir to get it clean and painted. I was surprised to find no gasket between the pump and the reservoir. But I can't believe that metal on metal is enough to keep the fluid in. AM I WRONG?

I searched and searched for a reservoir gasket. But haven't had any luck finding anything that looks like it would work for this style. I did find O-rings for the reservoir, could this be it? The problem that I run into is that I can't find a replacement reservoir that sits onto of the pump like what I have.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Look for gasket paper at a NAPA or Advance Auto, then use the reservoir to trace the holes, and the pump's reservoir mount to cut the gasket on the outside.

Rock Auto shows this seal kit, if I remember correctly those eaton pumps use 2 small sealslooks to me that a couple of seals not 1 larger gasket. But it has been a few decades sense I have rebuilt one of those.

I've not, so this is a good learning experience.

Ok so I got the kit that Jeff talked about. It had two seals but they look a little lose than I would expect.

Here are a couple photo. What do you think?

It appears the seals are tall enough to be squished to make the seal. Only way to confirm is to assemble the reservoir, pour enough fluid to fill both ports and wait a while to see if either side leaks.

Thanks I'll do that once I get the engine in and all the lines connected. If that doesn't work then looks like I'll have to make my own gasket.

    Thanks everyone!

You can always go to the auto parts store and find large O-rings that will work.

They look like they will seal. I'd try it for sure.
