Old Steel car show -Union Gap Wa.

This Sunday was the 23rd annual Old Steel car show at the Ag Museum here in Union Gap.

We usually attend this show. It's a great show, great setting at the Ag Museum and is usually the start of the show season for us.

I drove the Fury, but kind of parked in the back since we didn't get there until after church and the show had already begun by then. They had 247 entrants this year which is a high-water mark. I'm really happy to see this show be successful.




As part of the show you get to roll in front of their recreation of the vintage service station with your car (or truck) and have a photo taken which is kind of fun.



There was a great variety of classic cars and trucks on display, which included a few wagons.

Yesterday was the 2019 show.
We went down after church and had a great time.
This year had the largest show field I've seen since I started coming to the event. They had 275 cars registered when we arrived.

There was a neat array of cars and trucks as usual. There were a few wagons, but most of them were the usual suspects.
However there was one that I hadn't seen before, a Studebaker Lark.



It was pretty neat.

 

Looks like quite a variety of cars. Lots of ‘40’s and ‘50’s. Looks like a fun show.

 

Yes, the variety of cars and trucks is great. There was a large contingent of Studebakers there this year which was fun to see.

There were a few rare and unique cars as well.

This BMW Isetta was the first one I have ever seen in person. They really are tiny!



There was also this Auburn Boattail Speedster reproduction.

 

That Isetta would have a tough time tackling a shopping cart. I had a friend that let me drive his a couple of times. It was kinda nerve racking. That front end closes like a hearse on you and it’s just you and the road. Great car for 20mph streets, but not a highway cruiser.

 

I saw it zoom past my office yesterday. It looked hilarious going down the road.

I dig the boat tail. Them suckers are high dollar. Wonder what the repops. Cost?

 

Yeah, it's a real looker. I talked to the owners last summer at a cruise night. This is a faithful recreation, not a kit car based on an Impala or something like that. I am under the impression that these cars that were built to be carbon copies of the originals are actually worth quite a bit of money themselves. Not even close to the value of a "real" one, but still quite expensive.
I like to see them out driving it and enjoying it.
