This is news to me. Given all the chiselers that responded to previous CL ads I'll not be paying to hear from them.
The newspaper classified section is no longer enough to wipe your butt with.
I guess I'll be dragged, kicking and screaming, into social media(just the phrase annoys me) to offload an extra car now.
Apparently folks are even buying cars sight unseen on some of these "apps" and having them delivered.
What's a crabby old man to do?

Did y’all ever have wheels n deals.? I used to love that magazine. I bought and sold a few cars out of it but I would buy it just to see what was going around. I don’t do spacebook or any social media. I never have. I spend a lot of time trying NOT to tell the world what I’m up to. I remember this girl showing me her Facebook stuff when it just came out. I told her that it would never last because no one is that vain sit around taking pictures of themselves. Boy oh boy was I sadly mistaken.

This is my concern. I've bought cheap(er) cars long distance on CL for the last 20 years. I wonder if those cars are going to dry up now that they charge for ads.

I've browsed around on the Facebook Marketplace, but I'm not on Facebook and it seemed a little difficult to navigate and search, but maybe I wasn't using it correctly. I have heard of good results from it, but I'm sure it is only a matter of time before most/all of the idiots from CL move over there. Maybe CL won't be full of idiots anymore...well I can dream.

I bought my last four cars long distance sight unseen (aside from detailed pictures) through text, e-mail, and phone. Not everyone is a scammer, but I normally don't bother negotiating on price. If I like what you are asking for the car I'll contact you. If I don't I'll move along. The "is this still available" question is legitimate in my mind due to all of the idiots that just leave their ads up long after the car is no longer available unless you state in your ad specifically that the ad will be taken down after the car is sold.

We recently sold our PU. We had it listed on KIJIJI and FB marketplace and had far more responses on FB then KIJIJI. It sold in about three weeks. Good luck with your sale.

I remember having to drive to the Newspaper offices and have them take a photo of my vehicle to list it in the classified section. Same with the the Thrifty Nickle and the Penny Saver publications. They charged per letter and photos cost extra. It wasn't cheap either. I think we, as fans of automobiles and seekers of good deals, have gotten spoiled over the past decade or so. We have gotten used to being able to list our junk for free and at the same time scan all of the other junk people have listed for free.

My buddy just listed his 5.0 Mustang on CL in the Auto Parts section to avoid the $5 fee.
He told his boss (who is also a car guy) and he immediately chided him saying if everyone does that it won't be long before there is a charge to list stuff in that section too! I wouldn't be surprised if it got flagged after a day or so either.

Ours was called Deals on Wheels. It used to be 9/10ths private party sales. When I was in high school we would pick them up at the local gas station and scan for good deals and dream cars. Now it's almost completely ads for used car lots. There's only one or two pages of cars for sale from a private individual.

I have definitely noticed a sharp increase in cars for sale in the auto parts section. Until I saw this thread I just figured people on CL had gotten even dumber,

When did CL start charging?! I just had a car on there for about three months. I renewed it twice. Never heard of any charges

The 15th of this month. Surprise! I relisted my truck and a Kia Optima I am selling twice this year. When I went to repost the truck on the 18th, I noticed it said there was a $5 charge that I would have to pay. It used to be just dealers, but it is private party now as well.

That's chump change, for a dealer. You would think, they'd get at the very least $50 out of them

If you charge more for dealers, the dealers will just sell "By Owner" instead.

If they tried that at Auto-Scout.24, they'd get banned for violating terms of service, unless they're sneaky enough to have the vehicle photographed away from their lot and then use a third party who wouldn't do it for free anyway.
I was carefull about not buying mine from a dealer. One person was always selling vehicles, pretending to be a private owner. But, I never bothered snitching
