Hi all, I am a long time car buff and wagon enthusiast but in 2014 when I was looking at my first toy car in decades, wagons were through the roof. So, I bought a 68 Mustang California Special for less than the wagons I wanted. I still have that, along with a few other toys now, but I couldn't shake the desire for a wagon. I envision taking the family cross country, with a trailer, camping along the way. So, a couple of years ago I found a 66 Falcon for $1,850 but due to my car affliction, I had way to many cars to bring another home so it sat in storage for two years. Well, I got it home a few months ago, pulled the dead 200 ci motor and tiny (C3?) trans, dropped in a 250ci and C4 (AOD to come) from a low mileage donor Maverick, and we are off and running. Not to the races, obviously, but off just the same. I am as nutty about inline sixes as I am about wagons and F100's. I am now in restoration/mod mode and piecing together my build. I also have a dilapitated 67 Ranchero that I may cut the back off of and make a matching trailer for my wagon. The weak part that remains a challenge is the tailgate & window. Weather strip seems to be hard to find and there may be some regulator damage. Thanks for your time and for the forum. Cheers!
Here is a pick from when I first bought it and one now. Really, 0nly the wheels are different (16" Shelby 10 Spoke) but it was a non runner and is now a reliable turn-key cruiser.
Welcome h20cycle! Didn't the 66 Falcons share many of the same parts as the Mustang? I know the shop manuals are for both for that year. Hard to believe you bought a 68 CS for less than a wagon!
Thanks all for the welcome. @HotRodRacer - Yes, many parts including much of the front suspension is 67 Mustang and I happened to have a front disc conversion that never made it on to my GT/CS. They are going on the wagon in the next couple of weeks. In California in 2014/15 it seemed like wagons were in the high teens and low 20's when I was looking. Which prompted me to search more traditionally collectable cars like Camaro & Mustang. The GT/CS was a little worked, with the numbers matching motor on a pallet. It has since been rebuilt and reinstalled.
Welcome aboard. Sounds like you definitely have the disease. Of course, we're none of us are actively looking for the cure. I dig the old Mustangs and F-100's as well, so you are in the right place my friend.
