I thought I saw on the news that sears got a bailout of some sort? Wonder if that’s going to affect the carcasses of the the k-Mart and Sears next to my house?! Hey Mak! You sell the wagon yet? Are you sailing away anytime soon?

Do you ever think the next generation of us will enjoy viewing photos of WalMart parking lots full of Honda Oddessy’s and sun baked Carola’s

scuzbag Lambert put in an offer to buy Sears, great the guy that raped the company of most of its assets and the largest creditor
is going to buy the company for what it owes him, leaving all the other creditors with nothing or next too, then guarantee he will strip the rest of the assets and fold the store, as far as the empty stores next to you - they won't be Sears or K-Marts

haven't sold the wagon yet, and haven't found a boat that didn't need too much work - but still working on both

Yeah patients is a virtue. Hang in there. I’m trying to sell a car for my cousin and it’s been slow. I’m thinking once the weather warms and people thaw out a little bit things will pick up. I had a guy that sounded real excited about the car two days ago. Was supposed to come today but he backed out. At least he communicated with me instead of the ol’ no call no show. The good thing about both our situations is we don’t NEED the money so we can wait for someone who really wants the car instead of someone looking for a cheap date!

When I heard about what was going on with Sears, and the buyout offer, I wondered whether the government would've stepped in if this happened 40 or more years ago. As those anti-trust and market protections get stripped away, these greedy 1% bastards get more and more emboldened. The same kinds of actions helped sink Kay Bee Toys.

40 years ago they would have let you fail. (I was wasn’t alive then so I’m guessing) but I do know that more than 100 years ago and not only would they let you fail but they’d put you and your family to work in the poor house refilling ink wells

You know, actually, without realizing it, you're actually right, just that those who caused the failure were always in-house. I wasn't thinking about the Milwaukee Road Railroad, the Pay 'n' Pak/Pay 'n' Save, or other local entities, that once they came out of reorganization, they all of a sudden spend all their remaining capital dry, after all the creditors and former shareholders were dismissed from the court with nothing to show for their efforts to get paid. The one thing you have never heard from tax foes is rewriting tax codes so that companies and corporations that actually cause their own demise, DO NOT reap the 'benefits' of write-offs.

Perhaps if Sears had the number of employees that they had when I worked there the gov. might have played a part.
"In 1989 Sears, including its financial services subsidiaries (Dean Witter, AllState Insurance, Discover Card, etc.), employed 525,000 worldwide." Chicago Tribune
News reports state that there 68,000 current employees, kind of tells you the state of affairs. When I worked in the Corp office there were roughly 10,000 to 13,000 people working there, everyday just for Sears. it was like a small city - cafeteria was AMAZING

It's difficult to imagine that anybody can stay in business, with that much overhead on administrative employees, even considering that they and their families enjoyed company-paid health care insurance. It probably worked out, back then. But, in contrast to not getting any medical coverage from employers while both parents need to be working more than one job each, these days, is surely food for thought
