I am in the process of restoring a 1972 Gran Torino Squire. Presently I have pulled the front clip, pulled the engine (came to me w/o a trans and drive shaft) and pulled the brakes and control arms. Ball joints are out and am waiting the arrival of new bushings before I take arms to shop to have old bushings out and new bushings in. This weekend will remove the steering linkage and finish cleaning frame. Thot about a frame off restoration ... but that's way too much trouble working in a limited space. I'm looking for various parts and pieces during the week since I travel alot for work. Found a rear RH quarter panel since mine has a crunch. I'm presently looking for a rear pan, Ford OEM Part number D2OZ 7111215 A (part number courtesy of Tony @ Green Sales). Any ideas? A couple of weeks ago I picked up a parts wagon from a collector friend in Alabama. It had been sitting out in a field for ~ 20 years and has lots of rust (and a few abandoned field mice homes) ... but also lots of good parts. We loaded it on the trailer with a Case tractor. When I got it home my son and I put tires under it and chained it to a tree. It actually rolled and came off the trailer nicely w/o alot of work. Presently it is sitting on a couple of railroad ties to keep it off the ground. I located a true grandma car close to home that will serve as an engine and transmission donor ... 1973 Galaxie 500 w/ 351C 2v C6. Car has less than 38,000 miles. Spent last 5 years sitting in a garage on flat tires. That one also went on the trailer nicely once I put rolling stock under it. Body and interior kinda beat up but engine and transmission only dirty from sitting so long. Will tear down and replace seals and gaskets before it goes in the wagon ... and paint it old Ford Blue. Wagon will complement my 72 Ranchero 500 Q-Code Cobra Jet. But that car/truck belongs in another forum category so I won't talk about it here. regards ya'all
Welcome AP. Sounds like you're another knuckle-duster. Here's a few floorpan sources: http://www.rustrepair.com/floor_pan.htm http://www.classicsheetmetal.com/othermetalhome.html http://usbodysource.com/Cover/Cover.htm And this might be closer for you: http://www.dvap.com/
Updated Wagon Restoration thot that I might share a few pictures of status of restoration project and my donor wagon. Finalizing cleaning and almost ready to paint frame and start putting suspension and steering back together. Both wagons have same color interior. Will be nice for sharing interior trim, door panels, upholstery et. Al. Donor wagon apparently hit a deer and was parked in 1989. Only has 106,000 miles. Engine appears to be a 351-C 2v with probably a C6 transmission. Sure is nice to have extra pieces when you're working with older cars. thot that I'd slide in a pic of the 351-C 4v Q-Code in the Ranchero. Waiting for a radiator so that I can finish putting this project back together.
I purchased ithe wagon from a gentleman east of Dallas. The title that came with it was a Nevada title (Las Vegas). Very little undercarriage rust except for the rear floor panel. I am extremely blessed to have found a desert car. The original 302 was a leaker and also helped preserve the frame with caked grease and dirt. As you can tell, my son and I have done a bit of cleaning. I just came in from spraying the frame and cleaning up the shop. Looks even better now.
Heck of a nice wagon except for the crunched front end. It'll be great when finished. Keep us up to date we love projects.
The 1982 Cougar Wagon was a really nice car. My wife drove one when she was a Tupperware Manager in Central California. As I recall, the only issue that the car had was that after the last door was closed, you had to open it slightly again so that the car could "burb". Actually, the 72 green Torino wagon with the broken nose I will use for parts as necessary. The white one in the 1st message is the one that is getting the make over.
