Hi all, I am looking to source all rear window & tailgate rubbers for my 1959 ford ranch wagon. Please help
Google "obsolete Ford parts" and you'll find there are a few places, like Green Sales Co. of Ohio, that have OEM trim, rubber, etc.
honestly I think your s.o.l. had one and looked all over look for a similar rubber extrusion and plan on making it. 20 yrs ago I made the side window gaskets for my 59 chevy so you never know but I looked all over about 8 yrs ago and found none
I know! I can get all rubbers up to 58 from steele rubbers or obsolete classic auto but none apparently for 59. Bazaar really. Thanks for reply’s though, I will keep looking.
Someone suggested to me to use the corners of what you have If they’re still halfway decent and then finish the rest with some aftermarket universal stuff. Wish I knew what specific brand to use or if it even works as I have not gotten around to try it yet. Wish I could be of more help. Because I need new rubber AND window sweeps
Grizz there is none on there at all (doors or rear tailgate) so I do not even know what to look for!as I have a rubber weatherstrip company near me I could go and take to them,the rear tailgate window has been bodged from god knows what??
I went ahead and looked at Dennis Carpenter’s website, and it looks like he has door gaskets and the rear window rubber for a ‘59. Also as ‘59 wagon man said he also sells the correct ‘59 rubber by the foot. He also had rubber stops in his inventory. He might be a good go to as far as a resource if he doesn’t have it. Again the thing I like about him is that it is the Ford stamp stuff. The website is a bit confusing, you just need to double click on “Big Fords and Edsel 1949-1959” then scroll down to weather stripping, the wind lace and rubber parts are there.
We went with Mac's for a lot of the stuff on our 59 convertible. https://www.macsautoparts.com/ford_mercury_late/ They had an impressive amount of parts available. Might be worth looking into.
Just found this foam rubber by a company here in England just down the road from me,John jones from longroofs sent me a diagram of one similar from steele rubber that he used!! Will let you know?
twenty yrs ago when I did my Chevy wagon the rear side glass gaskets were not available but the rubber was by the foot. I bought an Eacto knife and miter box used for many hobbies and made the gaskets. they came out fine
1959 was the first year Ford changed the door and tailgate seals to fitted bits with screws and hard points on the ends. To my knowledge, nobody makes them, but the rolls you can get of the rubber the two show above could work if you clean the channel and apply with 3M weatherstripping adhesive. I sourced mine from Dennis Carpenter. One bag of the stuff is enough for each door. The tailgate needs two bags. Make sure you get the lift gate striker plates correctly adjusted so the rubber seals, else it leaks. This is for '57 - '58, but like I said, if you install it carefully, it should still work.
