The tailgate window on my 1977 Mercury Marquis Colony Park will not raise anymore. It will lower just fine, but will not raise. I can hear the motor running and I can raise the glass by hand, but once raise it wants to fall back down. Since getting to this mechanism will be a bear, can anyone give me some helpful hints as to what could be the cause or tricks to repair?

Regardless of the problem, you will need to lay the tailgate down and remove the inner cover to find out what is wrong. It could be the motor drive is worn out, or the glass separated from the regulator, but for the problem, you need to access the inside of the tailgate.

Yes, already there but as you may know, only spider monkeys or space aliens can easily access the motor hardware!

Most of them do better work than most mechanics around my area.

I do have a 77 colony park but I have never had the rear panel off. I did have the one off on my 70 country squire and I don't remember it being a particular bear to get to. It had a bunch of things wrong with why it wouldn't work. One was the plastic gear had the inner drive part kinda stripped so I fixed it with epoxy. Two was the wire going through the door jam was broken so had to fix that. The switch was bad and the wire in the harness that feed the back window shorted out under the dash and melted the wire and relay. You can pull the plug at the window motor to see if it's getting power in both directions. From there you will know which way to go.

Well I took it slow and steady and it still only took me two hours to full repair the power window on my magix tailgate. Thanks to this video

It is amazing and anyone with window issues should check it out.
