Its not a station wagon movie, but I think the best footage of a station wagon ever filmed for a movie, is the 62 Fury wagon in "Its a Mad Mad Mad Mad World" filmed when the Plymouth wagon and most of the other cars in the movie were brand new. Its pretty cool to see that Fury wagon being driven flat out racing down the mountain and swerving all over the road when the road map blocks Sid Ceaser's (the driver's) vision.
If you are a fan, you'll enjoy this site. http://members.cox.net/mkpl4/mmmmw/thumb.htm It shows now and then photos of sites used in the movie.
Actually.... they did fake one part. The ending scene of the office tower that was to be torn down. That building was a composite of a smaller building made to look much taller. But the car chases and everthing were real. The beachcraft plane that flew thru the billboard even stalled out one engine and smashed its windscreen doing that stunt. The pilot had to make an emergency landing! That movie couldn't be replicated today. They wouldn't be able to afford the salaries!
Thanks for posting the link. When ever I make it out to California, I always look for familiar locations from that movie. No other movie ever had that effect. But I always keep an eye open for a familiar location rfom Mad Mad Mad Mad World. I did recognize the the California Incline in Santa Monica when I drove past a few years ago, and there were a couple of familiar spots along the Pacific Coast Highway. But, it also looks like I went by one or two film locations and never even knew it. The Mulhulland Drive locations I must have driven on at some time or another.
When I saw it as a kid, I immediately recognized the California Incline, as I lived only a few miles from it. I thought at that time that a lot of the movie must have been shot in and around Santa Monica, so I kept trying to recognize more of the locations, but couldn't put my finger on anything else. It turns out that Long Beach and San Pedro (which I was unfamiliar with) look a lot like parts of Santa Monica.......

I have always loved that movie. The old couple in the antique getting pulled over by the motorcycle cop because he can't catch any of the other people!
Different movie. I think that was the 1964 movie "Sex and the Single Girl" with Natalie Wood and Tony Curtis. Two taxi's, a Lincoln convertible, and a vintage car that looked something like an Excalibur in that chase scene along with the motorcycle cop.
IAMMMMW ... Definitely a car guy movie ... Frank Tallman did the plane stunts. Not just in this movie, but in many movies.
Thanx for the memories flash back, that was a great movie......even as a kid I felt sorry for the old cop.
