I just bought all the ingredients to convert bucket seats, and console. The problem is all the info I have doesn't tell me what mounting brackets will interchange with sedans, Tbirds, and wagons. The seats from a Galaxie and Tbird are interchangeable from 64-66 but no-one is talking about the mounting brackets. Like other websites and info forums, guys bring up the issue and don't tell how it got fixed. Not for the weak of heart, buckets were $350, console with shift delete was $500, new foam $340, fresh chrome on the console $700. What's left? mounting brackets, upholstery labor, trim cleanup and install labor.

I have not done this but the brackets from 64 Galaxie with buckets should work because the front floor pans on all 64's should have the same stamping . They just used different risers and would have to possibly drill out stamping for the riser nearest tunnel . I no longer have my 64 Galaxie to check for sure .

I hear you but are the floors on a convertible the same as a sedan? The frames are different. Also, what's the difference between galaxie and tbird brackets when the trim piece around them is the same?

All 64 front floor pans on sedans galaxies and wagons same . Convertibles had the extra strength in frame not the body . The difference would be the height of the riser .

That's one step forward, thanx. Now I need to find out the difference in the mounts between Galaxie and tbird.

My guess would be the t-bird are shorter in height . If you have access to a set there should be a way to adapt to the height you would be comfy with providing you have the seat tracks on your frames . If you are having them installed maybe those doing the work could fabricate a set of risers . Not that complicated other than getting front to rear height close . Front is higher .

OK, then why is the trim that surrounds the track and riser the same?

Some of the riser is exposed and usually painted to match interior color . Hope this helps . 309551489_tp.jpg

I am finding out that the confusion is world wide. People are selling bucket seat mounts from tbirds as being off of Galaxie's. Note Galaxie seat adjustors are on the side. Tbirds are on the front? Or are they just on the side for XL's and convertibles and front for the rest? It's not simple.

The adjusters would be because of cabin dimensions between doors and risers due to floor pan depth below door sill . All full size Galaxie sedans or whatever would have side adjusters . A little confusing but not if you consider actual dimensions of the interior of the t-bird compared to the full size car Galaxie , Custom , or front set area of your wagon .

take a look at this pic. the lowers were removed from 64 thunderbird buckets. The uppers were purchased from a parts dealer on line and are supposed to be 64-66 Galaxie. Looks like the bird mounts are taller and the floor contour is different.
Still trying to figure out the interchangeability.

I would suggest you ask someone with a 64 Galaxie with buckets for pics to compare . Try just asking for pics on Ford Muscle of just the seat bases rather than the difference . Looking at the pics I don't remember mine looking like the bottom tall ones. Wish I could be more help but no one local with 64 and buckets .

I broke my own rule on this one by not posting the "fix" to my question. Unfortunately I have sold the wagon and have not heard any progress on the seat swap. As far as I know, the 63-64 bucket seat mounts will work on the 64 wagon. 65 on up are different.
