This car screams out for restomodding.

Rare Nascar Model, has the big 390 V8, looks to be in decent shape for the asking price, my last roommate before I got Married had one of these but it was white with bucket seats and the base 302 V8

I'm a bit disappointed with this one....

When the 'XL' model debuted in 1962, it was the 'sporty' big Ford, but over time was decontented, to this point in 1968, where a stock XL was equipped with a bench seat and a 240 cubic-inch straight 6. Basically all you have here better than a Galaxie 500 is the hidden headlights. If you REALLY wanted a sporty big Ford in '68, you had to check off the buckets and console, your big 428 V8, and the 'GT Equipment Group', which gave you the handling suspension, front discs, and other stuff.

As far as I'm concerned, '67 was the last production year for a true XL

Too bad, they didn't do the roofline more LTDish, though:

    I've got a weakness for 4-door hardtops

Splitting hairs.....you guys tell me that if you had the chance to get this really cheap or free you guys would turn it down?

Yeah right....these are outstanding looking cars. The only weak spots on these are the motor mounts and the frame rot, which being a Philly car, would warrant an inspection.

Sh!t, I would even take it if it had a 240 6 in it.

I'll 'homologate' the sonofagun. I might even restore it, rather than restomodding it.

    Me too....
In '63 and '64, you could order a Galaxie 500 XL in 4-door hardtop form.....

I wonder why they abondoned this package. Imagine if they had built a four-door hardtop wagon accordingly.
The tri-power 406 was even putting out, for all practical purposes, one horsepower per cubic inch. Note the factory-tuned exhaust manifolds

Mercuries got the package, also. But, who knows if the four-door hardtops got it also?
