And they don't usually wear out, what usually happens to them is corrosion starts between the aluminum and the steel liner and the liner fails. Happens more often if the cars sits in a wet climate. Picture below is an extreme example I pulled this one off a car that was sitting with the right side of the car on dirt & the left side on concrete. This one came off the dirt side. Believe it or not I sold the set (including the spare tire hold down plate) for a good profit. I had wanted them for spares but was offered actual cash. I hate to think about what was paid to restore them.

It looks like, from here, there's nothing wrong with the aluminum housing. That blistering happened on the steel liner which is odd. I've never seen anything like that, on a normal drum. What'll happen, if you file that blister away?

I have never tried to turn out the Blister (on the lower left of the Pic) but this example the steel liner actually split if you look at the lower right side of the picture. You are correct there is usually nothing wrong with the cast Aluminum part of the drum. I usually installed Metallic brake shoes and when adjusted correctly they work very well with no fading. Probably due to the Aluminum construction and the fact there is no wheel to disrupt the cooling air to the outer surface of the drums.

Has anyone actually seen this car, and if so what do you think? The pictures look great but we all know it might be a completely different story in person.
I’ve been looking for a ‘60s wagon for a while now and haven’t had much luck finding a time capsule car like this one says it is.
