    I
    Hi All,
I am new in this forum. I am so glad I found it.
I am 74 years old, naval architect, boat builder and living in Maine. A great State for boats, and a dreadful State for car!
I drove for many years, almost 27 years, a Chevy Caprice Wagon 1989. In my humble opinion the best car.
For 7 years, while building a boat for myself ,and transforming my garage on a workshop, my Caprice seated outside. Since it is not of prime youth, my 29 years old Caprice wagon went from rusted to failing apart. Friends told me to junk it. No way. So I started a complete restoration of the body. The mechanical parts works very well and smooth thanks to a fantastic mechanic. He took care of my car since I bought it. Maintaining it in perfect running condition
The Caprice is back in the garage. The body work went well until the beginning of winter. Its now to cold to work having no heat in the garage.
    Work will resume this spring.
    Daniel

As an old timer, you're at least new here. Welcome aboard. Taking a close-up peek, I've just noticed that that's not a Roulette Wheel avatar. Up 'til now, I suspected you were some casino gambler.
Do you have images of the cars and boats you owned previous to the Caprice? At 74, it's not likely that you owned boring vehicles. Give us your best shot

For future reference, the word is aficionado.

Welcome. Let's see some photos of this car!

This is the cars I owned. I find the pictures on the internet, since I don't have personal pictures of my own cars.

Why? Did you go out and wreck them, on the way home from the bar, before you had a chance to photograph them? Never mind. Just getting carried away:dizzy: It's my liver reminding me to head to the fridge again. It's almost evening, over here.
You must have spent your earlier career years overseas, judging by most of those cars. That SEAT is a FIAT made under license in Spain. They were supposedly of even poorer quality than the ones made in Italy
    I'm infectionadoed by the Packard

I find the wire cover wheel on Ebay. they are made by Chieftain, and are made of steel. The removable steel wire basket allow to clean easily the wire. the gold knock offs come also from Ebay. All new old stock.

I don't know what it is about you, daniels. You seem to attract potential willing wives wherever you go. This one hasn't even seen you yet and is already chatting you up;) She doesen't like me. That should be proof enough that she would make a good wife:eggface:

Daniel, I really like the 1949 Packard sedan. Fifty years ago I had a 1948 Packard sedan, practically identical. Great memories!

    Thank you all.
Yeap Fannie, and your winter must be even harsher than ours! The salt they put on the road is enough to rust even a tank!
The Packard was heavy on the steering wheel, but the torque of the engine was so unbelievable it was seldom needed to shift. I also had great memory with this car. Fannie I like your car. I am a fan of the wood side. My Caprice had the vinyl wood when I bought it, but has to be remove to repair rust. Yes the Seat was a real piece of crap. The design was so bad they put the steering wheel way to high, you had hard time to look where you going! The Peugeot the most boring car ever made I think. The Mini was the most exiting. Beside all these cars, my Caprice is the best car I ever had. Station wagon is so great.
