I've wanted one of these ever since they came out; but there just wasn't any getting Dad to trade in the Fairmont on one of these. I definitely would've gladly taken care of it if he had. The only problem: those TRX wheels, which were metric-sized. The tires are now out of production, unless Coker has got their hands on the molds.
Get some 'regular' Mustang alloys and tires, wrap up the TRX's, and let the NEXT owner deal with it. Problem solved.
Corker does have the tires, and you can get a mortgage to buy a set (and I thought they were expensive back in the day). Fortunately you can get a set of new reproduction 16” TRX style wheels with a set of tires for less than the Corker tires from LMR in North Carolina.
It is Kinda Kool, I always liked them. Sense it no longer has the original engine (correct engine is not the original engine) So non original but "correct" style wheels should not be an issue.
Yeah, but I have a love/hate relation with those wheels, and IIRC, Ford had suspension and steering upgrades for the pace car replicas.
I love the 79 pace cars. There was one a few years back that had a 03/04 Cobra donor. A terminator Cobra cleverly disguised as a 79 pace car. Cool. www.mustangandfords.com/featured-vehicles/mump-1110-1979-ford-mustang/ I had an 83 GT for a short time. It had the same metric wheels.
Even the Capris of that era had TRX setups; there was a black with gold trim one that the TRX wheels were gold anodized. Very razor sharp.
They had a Black Magic and a Crimson Cat version of the Capri. I really like the LMR 16" copies of the TRX wheels. I think this car is pretty reasonably priced for what it is.
