I uploaded 3 photos of my Falcon. 2 are from when I had it on the road. The last shows some of the customizations I have done. I replaced back side glass with metal. I replaced, extended, and frenched taillights. There will be a rolled rear pan with hidden reese hitch. All side molding has been shaved. Antenna is replaced with retractable antenna mounted in rear quarter. Hood scoop has been added. Engine (inline 200) has been rebuilt with electric fan, electric fuel pump, later year head, points-less ignition, dual headers, and better radiator. I'm struggling with what I'm going to do to the grill opening. Can't come up with something that looks good but won't take alot of time. I'm starting to get the itches to have the wagon on the road again. Love this forum! Dannydoo
You know what's really neat about this forum? People asking new questions. I think you're the first that's raised a new Grille concept. Have a gander at this site for inspirations. http://www.woodview.com/customer/Billet-Grilles.html AND THIS ONE!!! http://www.central4wd.com/category.aspx?page=id%7C41188
I like those frenched tail lights. With that kind of skill I'm sure you'll sort the grill in no time.
Wow! Thanks for the compliment, but I'm really just a beginning customizer. I credit my father who was always building some kind of custom car as I grew up. I know I'm no professional but it sure is fun (especially when you're done and driving it!).
No. The tailgate-side of the taillight extensions mold right back into the normal lines. If I had to change the shape of the tailgate, I would have laughed and said "No way!"
Copy that! One of my classmates in Engineering had a '66 Futura coupe. First car he ever owned. Heck of nice guy. He couldn't drive worth crap, and he was the first to admit it. It was a dark blue car, a bit rusty (in the rust belt), and he'd hit the parking posts, he'd hit fire hydrants. All low-speed dings and dents. So he went out and bought one of those DYNO labellers and punched out over 500 "OUCH" labels. That was in the second year. By the time we graduated, he punched out 100 more! What slowed him down is that our class of 8 guys and one woman decided to teach him how to do donuts on the college parking lot. Our class was always the first one in. We'd be there by 7:30 AM. The parking lot, in the winter, was all ice. The first guy/gal in got the best spot (closest to the entrance). That North wind is a PITA. The deal was to do a donut and park next to the last one in, straight and well-spaced, without hitting anything. Otherwise, the driver had to park at the far end of the lot (for 800 cars)! Now, Ivan, the Futura owner, was my guy-to-beat, in Engineering. A math whiz, a mainframe whiz, we were within 1 or 2% of each other all through college. Engineers are proud people, right? So the other 7 of us would get there early and leave him a spot BETWEEN two of our cars. It took him a week of trying to do the donut and park, but after that, he had a lot fewer dents. And I'd watch him from the lobby! LMAO!!! He actually bought a brand new Buick in the last year and never once got a dent in it, after 2 years of coming over for a drink and dinner. My 1966 Futura story.
It's taken me a long time to get here, but the bodywork on the Falcon is done! Except for the tailgate. I kept hoping I could find a new tailgate skin so I wouldn't have to rebuild the creases and mold the 3 curves just right. Can't find a skin anywhere, so I'll tackle the tailgate now. All I've got left is to finish the tailgate, make a rolled rear pan, then paint prep, and shoot. Can't wait to get her on the road. It's been waaaayyyyyyyy too long.
good to hear your still at it Dan...so whats the color gonna be?...did i ask that already....sorry...i have 'carziehmers'
Howdy. It's gonna be black with charcoal grey metallic ghost flames. Thought I was gonna finish the tailgate yesterday but spent all day repairing the rocker panels on my daughter's 2000 Focus. That's not nearly as fun as working on an old car.
Just finished painting and now I'm reassembling. Have ordered 16" wheels and by the time the wheels come in, she'll be on the road! Can't wait! It's been too long in the garage - I wanna get out and enjoy it. I've added a few pics in the Garage of the progress up to today.
