That total over-the-topness of the car was what made all the happenings so damned hilarious in the movie. It's just better it was a Ford; I don't think any of the GM wagons could've been made to look so endearingly fugly.
I like it, but the only thing that detracts it from being a "real" ad is the fact you're missing the crown hubcaps from the movie... that would have made it complete... other than that I like it, and I've always thought the double roof rack was neat!
Whoever made this did a fantastic job. It has the right look and is hilarious. Kudos to them and thanks for sharing Mike.
The wood on the hood helps keep the glare out of the driver's eyes. As for the double roof rack, I often had two white Sears turtle pod roof carriers on my Chevy van and for a long time had an electric auxillary engine fan outside the front grille. Even then I couldn't make a Chevy as ugly as a Ford. It reminds me of seeing some ugly women that people mistake for men. Only a bag lady with lots of cats can be that ugly.
My Florida son has about a 1983 Chevy pick up with one set of quad square headlites like those. He replaced the units with four new LED lights and made all four be on with brites. I tried to tell him that may be slightly too brite and slightly illegal. He's a slow learner!
I love the ad! Is it bad that I have been researching the Truckster so much I can tell them all apart. That is the one Gary Schneider built. It is one of the best replicas out there. They are all different but the big give aways are tinted glass, 79 bumper and his grill treatment is unique. As for headlights I did get all 8 of mine working before I lost the car. .........you still can't see a dang thing in front of you, but everyone sees you coming!
You must have added headlite relays to the headlite relays. Well, after all they did have midyear changes and new models ready for other customers. That was Ford's not better idea!
